and on whose moral compass are we rating "worst" and "less bad"?

do you consider yourself any more 'civilized' than a cut-off-their-hands middle eastern feudalism? or do you aspire towards their levels of compassion and treatment of their fellow men?

The law is weak. Pedos, rapists, murderers are all getting away with trivial sentences. About time the law got tough. Simple.

Also, bring back national service for the scummy hoodies etc etc.

does a return to victorian values also mean a respectable gentleman can visit a drug house and a child prostitute in one evening?

Not that harsh. Child prostetution is, as far as i am concerned part of the Pedo culture and should be harshly dealt with!

Probably more than half the uk population are sick of our weak law system. About time we brought back hard manual labour and the death penalty and sitting perverts in stocks in the town centres.

    Re: Abu Ghraib, again

A return to "traditional values" always amuses me, because people then immediately refute that they also want a return of the bad things that went along with them.

Yes, things are getting worse, but that's because people enjoy more freedom. It's a price that has to be paid for a society where you aren't forced into a particular mold, is that some people will misjudge what is acceptable.

Personally I'd like to see more consistant sentencing from judges, maybe narrow down their flexability when it comes to range of possibilities that more extreme crimes attract.

I wonder though, what would happen if you removed barristers from the equation? If the person accused of a crime had to argue their own case in front of a jury? Would it change things for better or worse?

so you just generally think we should be more violent, but won't back it up with reasoning beyond 'they're bad, make them pay!'?

Yes, I can appreciate a sentiment that we are too soft on prisoners, that we let them live, on occasion, to a better standard of living than their victims. However I choose to draw the conclusion that our society should be doing more for those in need, rather than it needs to be harsher on prisoners.

No need to ramble on with pointless guff like you mate. Given my opinion and thats that. Some people don't write paragraphs of replies! Short and sweet is better in some cases.
