Around a quarter of primary schools now have no male teachers

    Is it any wonder?

Too far, or the right move?

Re: Around a quarter of primary schools now have no male teachers

I'm quite certain that this wouldn't have even been brought up if the teacher in question had been female. It's a complete paranoid witch-hunt, and the lack of men in primary school is becoming real worry, IMO.

It's shocking at the lack of male teachers in primary school education.

Kids especially the boys need male teachers around.

Just do what they do any time theres any sort of "inequality", make secondary schools have only male teachers instead.

    There, done, sorted.

Re: Around a quarter of primary schools now have no male teachers

It's an unfortunate fact that paedophilia sells newspapers so it's in the medias interest to keep us all nice and afraid of the demon kiddy fiddler.

It's very sad the way society has changed in the last 20 years.

I have two daughters, one is now 23 and the other is 12.

When the older one was small we used to enjoy taking baths together, playing games like "how many times do you think this big bottle of water will fill this smaller one" and finding out what floats and what doesn't.
She has gone on to achieve a first in Physics and Maths at Durham University and now tells me that it was those early experiment games that sparked her love of science.

By the time my youngest was the same age the witch-hunt was already in full swing and I didn't feel that I could do the same anymore. There wouldn't have been any difference as far as we were concerned but all it would have taken was for her to have innocently mentioned baths with Daddy at school and you just know that some dirty minded tabloid reading social worker would have been beating down the door ready to hang a notice around my neck and paint a target on my back. I felt, and still feel both sad and incredibly annoyed that Katy was forced to miss out.

Recently, during a fairly long gap between contracts I was asked by the headmistress of my daughters school where my wife had already been helping as a teaching assistant if I would consider joining them as well. I thought long and hard about it but in the end reluctantly decided not to because of cases like this one.

This case is particularly sad. That school has lost a teacher who is clearly an inspiration to his pupils and is valued by parents and other staff members alike and the school and indeed the profession is poorer because of it.

Re: Around a quarter of primary schools now have no male teachers

Well this is downright sexist and frankly appalling. When the parents of the children involved try and campaign for the teacher in question, where is the logic?
I think us men should have our own equal rights movement... not sure what we can burn though as im quite keen on my underwear.

Re: Around a quarter of primary schools now have no male teachers

It's a sexist, anti-male witch hunt again. It's hard enough to get men interested in the caring professions and we keep getting stories like these. Our children are growing up represed and scared of physical contact because no one dares hug them in public.

^ or just use facebook lol.

I always wanted to be a teacher. But unfortunately, the poor wages at primary and nursery level and the lack of discipline at secondary level put me off it.
