That is an amazing cost saver! I ran in to someone I went to school with in Cornwall the other day, he complained he couldn't afford to keep his car so wouldn't be able to get a job. I thought about this then mentioned we used to cycle an hour plus to play, he mentioned thats too far.... Amazing, I cycle that some days just because of the fat boy drank too much dog leg I do.
I think we will need to change our attitude towards cars and property unless we want to wreck our greenspace.

I bought a bike with the intention of saving myself some cash and using less petrol on small journeys... and i rarely use it. The convenience is just too great!
I totally agree with you though, we all need to have a change in attitude with regards to transport. Having unreliable public transport certainly doesn't help the situation mind!
If my girlfriend moved down here or i moved back up to Manchester i would definitely get rid of my car and save myself £2000+ a year!

Helps if your friends use one too.
Or do what I did, and spend half your travel card cost on it, so basically you'd have no option but to use it.....

tbh, unless I move somewhere *very* rural in the future I can't see myself running a car again. If I need one for a weekend, it costs me about £50 plus petrol to hire a family hatchback, and I don't have to worry about tax, insurance, upkeep... it's so much less stressful.

That's a masterful piece of understatement that is!
