    Cheapest gas and electricity?

well, British gas are increasing their prices again this year, I went with them because they told me "we are the cheapest"... Sigh, should have known better, anyway we have a fair bit of choice these days so I will vote with my feet in this case. Who do you guys use for electricity and gas supply and how do you rate them on price/service?

Be careful before jumping suppliers. It is the base cost of gas that has gone up. So all suppliers will very soon hike their prices too. Might be worth waiting a while and see where they all settle at.

What is currently be the cheapest, could quite possibly become the dearest if they have been absorbing price rises for some time.

most suppliers will be cheaper than british gas.

i did some research before i switched to Powergen.

my bills went down by £20 a month, i now pay £35 a month for Duel fuel and only use about £20 worth of it.
so now my account is in credit they will send me a cheque at the end of the year.
plusi got 1,000 tesco points for joining and 1 for every pound i spend.

Energy prices are going up, mate, and they are not going to stop. Get used to it.

I swapped to Powergen yesterday. Saving me approx 25% on my annual bill with British Gas.

No. I have voted with my feet and will continue to do so. The energy suppliers need to come up with renewable methods to produce electricity. Hydro electric, solar power, wind power, nuclear power stations. There are loads of alternatives. The suppliers need to address this issue with action, not by jacking prices up on the consumer, just to stay afloat.

Alternative energy sources are a lot more expensive to harness. There are a couple of "clean" energy companies that you can buy your electricity off and they are a lot more expensive than "normal" companies. Voting with your feet will get you the cheapest power available, but that cheapest figure is going to continue to rise.

Well, yes, you do have a point, but if we keep voting with our feet the companies are going to invest in cheaper alternatives and the more companies that do so will bring the cost of moving to different power sources down.

You have far more faith in the capitalist system than I do!

At the moment the cheapest way of generating electricity is by burning fossil fuels. It's becoming more expensive, but it's still far cheaper than building renewable energy sources. In fact I would quite like to pay a bit more for electricity from a company that buys power from renewable sources, and thereby help to generate more investment in them. Unfortunately I live in a rented house with a key meter so I'm not sure there's much I can do. I might suggest it to my mum I suppose.

Wow I can't believe you guys are using British Gas and Powergen.

I found a Company called The Utility Warehouse. Joined Sept 2003 Dual Fuel and I've saved over £300 already. They do a whole range of stuff like mobiles etc. really cheap!

Seemingly there save money by not advertising big style TV etc, just word of mouth
