Why did Blair bother to sign the constitution?

It's 6:00, I've been on night shift and got so bored I had to sit and think of a thread to start. So this is it.

He's signed up and said we'll have a referendum. Now, it seems to me that the country is by and large ready to ditch the constitution at the referendum. Has he signed:

Because he really believes he'll win a referendum?
Because he knows he won't but can curry favour with the other EU chiefs by signing anyway?
Because he has some sneaky trick up his sleeve to make sure he wins?
Because he thinks another country will ditch it first so he can say to us ok, no constitution no need for a referendum now (and save face by not losing)and to the EU those pesky *insert nation* have screwed it all up?

I really disliked the smug look on his face when he signed. Something about the body language. Gave me a very uneasy feeling. Ok, I trust this guy about as far as I can throw the Isle of Wight. I also believe you can tell when he's lying......his lips move.

Anyway. Theories, conspiracy theories, stop bashing our Tone....whatever, let's hear it.

Any person with John Prescott on their team should be hung, drawn and quartered, as far as I'm concerned.

John Prescott is the only one with balls amongst the lot of them. It was a classic when he chinned that bloke who threw the egg at him.

Yeah, Presser has a set of cahoonies, but allthe ethics and morals of a sewer rat. He's the personification of the pigs in Orwell's Animal Farm. The evidence is in his need for TWO cars.... and the three hundred yard CHAUFFERED drive to save his wife's hair getting messed up in the wind.

Now, Gordon Brown, THERE'S a man who should be PM...

he didnt chin him tho...he mildly threw a sidways one at him, half blindly. He is immensely luck the bloke wasn't expecting a whack, cos he mighta gone down if the old bill hadn't got in there.

    Anyway..back on track.

TVF my man..may I state I believe it is option 4

He thinks (probably rightly) that someone else will bottle it, and he'll use that as a get out of jail free.

Mans a spineless fool. He WAS potentially an effective PM. He is now drifitng from one nightmare to another. He must have more Fire Fighters in his department than actuall working MP's

I'm leaning towards option 4 myself. The guy is spineless and an opportunist. He is also a consumate foreign affairs politician. He can lie in French AND English. The opportunity to blame someone else and avoid humiliation at home would be priceless.

Brown....I trust him as much as I trust Blair. In fact I find him even more sinister and power hungry.

Don't suppose there is any chance of reincarnating Winston Churchill? Now there was a politician with balls. Who incidently made the 'I could've lost my job over this' (to Montgomery's staff after El Alamein) and that was in response to Montgomery saying it first, long before Blair stole that sound bite.
