Perhaps there should be different road tax levels based on higher power.

This is already the case in japan car tax for cars of 660cc is only £25
above it its quite a lot more i think but i dont remember.

    maybe go up in 0.4 steps. so at 1 litre £50 1.4-1.8 £100 1.8-2.2 £200 2.2+ £400 etc

You see how i nicely put my car of 1.2 in the cheapest bracket hahaha

I have no idea, I just know you pay more for bigger engines, less for smaller...

Actually they've just found out that hydro electric power plants may be giving off more CO2 than other power plants as well as some other things. They did another study to prove that hydro electricity wasn't as great as made out to be. Solar power and wind power are the best, the problem is that no-one is utilizing it. Imagine if we had solar panels on the roof of every building? Surely it could provide enough power for something?

How in the hell is a hydro plant going to give off CO2? CO2 will be produced in the course of building it of course, but in operation it'll make effectively no CO2.

Solar panels are expensive and inefficient. It looks like the best way to generate electricity from the sun might be Solar Chimneys. Wind power is O.K and reasonable value for money, but you'd need tens of thousands of turbines to power the whole country, which would make the place look a bit ugly. I personally favour wave power as the best renewable energy solution for this country.

Totally Off Topic, but I wanted to ask poindextermatic, is that a cat in your sig?

Personally I think the tax bands for vehicles should be widened massively. Anything > 2 litre should be around 400/500 a year tbh. Also, anyone driving an SUV without a legitimate business reason should be taxed a similar amount.

Why do so many people have a problem with SUVs? A 2.0 rav4 does 32mpg (combined), that compares to the Volvo 2L V70 that gives 31mpg, or how about a nice sports car 350z around 25mpg, ban the sports cars first. Or how about a nice practical people carrier, 2L espace does 30mpg.

Whats the diference between a suv and an estate car? The estate takes up more room than the SUV. Around here its full of idiots in sports cars running little jimmy to school

I leave for work at 8:15 and have 2 large schools in my road.

What about nuclear power? Opinions? It's certainly not harmful in the same way as burning things, much less emissions etc...

Now what we really need is a nice big deuterium fusion reactor...

    Back on topic.

Nuclear power is a good option, and is actually backed by many of the less fanatical environmentalists. Dr. James Lovelock one of the founders of the Gaia hypothesis (much green thinking is based on Gaia) backs the use of nuclear power, mainly as a stop gap measure until we can sort out better renewable energy resources. Personally I think that off shore (and I mean a long way out) wind and wave is the best bet. We have already shown that facilities can be maintained out to sea, just look at oil and gas drilling.
