    Is this acceptable or not

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/6/33155.html

Members of a Florida-based rock band are to Webcast the suicide of a terminally ill friend during a secret concert on Saturday despite moves to outlaw the gig.
Now as the person in question requested it part of me thinks his wishes should be adhered too. But the band are clearly doing it as a publicity stunt which is disgusting.

    What do you think?

According to the band's Web site: "Past band performances have included sodomizing skinned calves and blending dead rats then having fans drink the concoction."
    errr.....wierdos.....
but if it is the dying wish of their friend, then it should be allowed to continue. it is rather sick gaining money and publicity from a death, but thats life nowadays i spose.

if war is the answer, then we are asking the wrong question

I'm not sure about it myself as it seems to be a protest about making euthanasia legal. (Which i agree with under the right circumstances)

Still seems in bad taste though

especially when you read what other antics they have been up to and also what not_your_punk has already said.

Guess it takes all sorts but the real issue is that if the law were not such an ass there would be a way to end ones own life with dignity and with your loved ones around you, at a time of your chosing, without all involved risking prosecution.

if the pollice have banned it (ii assume thats wot it ment?), then technicly wouldnt it be murder?

whilst i think it is discusting, assuming the terminally ill friend knows/understands whats hapening, i think htey should have choice.
i dont think it should be broadcasted, its somethig that i wouldnt watch anyway...

Yup. So they ought to prosecute the killer and stick him in jail for life.

Oh, hang on, he's dead ain't he

I don't know about the US, but as I understand it, in the UK, you are under no legal duty to prevent someone killing themselves (and indeed, Suicide is no longer a criminal offence) BUT assisting someone in suicide STILL IS.

So it would depend, I should think, on who did what. If someone helps him to commit suicide, they could (under UK law) and probably would, be prosecuted. But if he organises it himself, and everybody just stands and watches, and films it, THAT would not result in a prosecution (as I understand it).

Personally, I believe we should all have the right to end our own lives when we wish (subject to protection against doing it on a whim, or due to treatable depression, etc), and this is ESPECIALLY true of the terminally ill.

What is not clear is the motivations of this band. If it is about publicising the right to assisted suicide, then I have some sympathy. If it is about sick piece of self-promotional shock-horror (and given their previous antics, it probably is) then it did not ought to be allowed.

How do you tell which, though?

If it were my decision to make over this, the suicide (assisted or otherwise) would be allowed, but the filming and transmission would not.

Good way to get across a eutanasia protest even if it is a little tasteless, although there is really no other way to protest this in an action manner without being tasteless is there?

Skly77 - i'd suggest you pay a little more time in replying to threads in this forum, backing up arguements with a little bit more than a 7 word post would be good.

The fact that its illegal, i find it morally wrong that they should seek to do this as a publicity stunt.

If someone is terminally ill and they wish to die then it should be with there family not on some stage somewhere etc.
