    Tory leadership race

Ken Clarke is my choice. I really hope that a political party, any party, can challenge General Blair at the next election. What do you guys/girls think about the Tories chances?

I hate the Tories in general but Ken Clarke seems less right-wing than Blair to me so I am prepared to vote for him if the Tories stand a chance of displacing New Labour.

I would much rather vote for someone linked to the tobacco industry than someone linked to perpetual wars and someone that sucks up to Dubya.

Well you're the first person i've met that said he'd go for Ken Clarke... Did you catch newsnight last night? They did a straw poll of voters consisting of conservative voters, conservative votes who said they wouldn't vote conservative again and labour voters. Cameron was a huge and clear winner - quite informative.

At the moment, i'd agree - he seems level headed and the conservatives need a new, fresher face on their party. Clarke isn't electable - he's just a reminder of the past, something the tories desperately need to get away from.
