    Legislative and Regulatory Reform Bill?

    I spotted this in a friend's blog: http://www.hoojum.com/LARRB/LARRB.html

I've not heard anything of this before - surely this is going a bit *too* far..

Unfortunately this doesn't surprise me at all. The current Labour government has been trying to subvert the rule of law; both legislative and judicial since it came to power. To start with they were very cautious about it, but now due to their successive re-elections they seem to be under the illusion that they can do whatever they want because they know what is best for us.

I'd like to say that it is just a socialist failing but the conservatives became prone to it, which is why (in part) that labour have been able to cling onto power despite failing to achieve anything of note. But think about this, a certain Austrian gentleman was the leader of a socialist party in Germany and look what that lead to in the name of racial purity. What worries me is that religion has now started to be openly discussed as being part of the decision making process for our current.

Now religion may have done a lot of good, but when taken to extremes or used as justification for actions (especially military) has a very poor record. So it is about time that the people of this country got off their comfortable backsides and do something about it

I have been aware of this bill for a few weeks now and it disturbs me greatly. Labour in their 9 years of power have done more to destabilise Britain than any other party in power.

People have been lulled into a false sense of security in this country. They always believe that a takeover could never happen to us and that democracy will be with us always. However, we are seeing increasingly totalitarinist law being passed the latest of which is this incidious bill.

In a few years time we will have a chance to get rid of this government, I hope people see the light. I have always said that the populous has more to fear from a socialist left wing party than a right wing one. Socialists always want to control and therefore their government machine grows faster as they seek this control. Legislation is piled high and centralisation occurs as the layers of bureaucracy take their toll on those who are not employed by the state.

Tis been a long time since I've posted...

A bill such as this is exceedingly dangerous. It looks to me like another Enabling act! Even if the government kept their promises, what's to stop the future governments from abusing it?

The press are beginning to wake up to this, but with the final reading and vote due in less than 2 weeks (From what I can tell), they're a bit late. I've even written to my MP with my concerns over this (A first!)

    Check these:

    Then write to your MP!

The more i read about this and the reports about the PM wanting to reform the Lords further and Chalie Falconer basically saying that the government should get it's way within 60 days and that the House of Lords is basically a pain in the arse for Government and should be altered to effectively rubber stamp legislation seriously worries me.

Emanicipation of the institutions that are the pillars of democracy in this country is happening very fast. There are (imho) basically 3 steps that must occur if this country is to move towards an elected dictatorship.

    1. The House of Commons (and cabinet government) is marginalised with regard to policy formation and debate. The House of Lords looses it's reform and blocking power eg. the whip is introduced, the Lords is packed full of cronies (oh thats happened all ready - money for peerages)

    2. Reform of the Law so that increased powers are given to the state usually made under false pretense (anti-terrorist legislation and it's abuse - centralisation of the police force)

    3. A move to republicanism and the removal of the crown with regards to law and the armed forces. i.e. armed forces swear allegence not to the crown but to the Prime Minister.

The first 2 are happening before our very eyes. When the present Queen dies then I fully expect the third to be a contender because old Charlie boy is not the most liked or respected individual within government or public circles. Give it 40 years and our children may well wake up and find history repating itself, ala, the third reich.

A fine example of what this govt will do to get it's way was shown with the fox hunting bill. To get those pesky Lords out of the way TB (funny how he has the initials of a debilitating disease) invoked the parliament act. Can't have democracy getting in the way of labours plans now can we?

There have been a raft of attempts to shackle the population which have been narrowly fended off so far. This law would allow the govt to get teh new laws they want onto the books in a watered down manner to placate the general public and then re-write them laer on in the image that they originally envisaged.

When is the UK going to wake up to the threat they face to their freedoms. Not from foriegn extremists but from the govt that they voted in?

    Perhaps there is hope?

If you ask me this bill should be left on the scrapheap.

    As the official interviewed said:

The changes would prevent people from misconstruing the reform as a bid "by government to take a wider constitutional power", he added.
Personally I don't think anyone misconstrued anything. This absolutely was a bid by govt to take wider constitutional power. Be interesting to hook him up to a polygraph (yes, I know they can be beaten) and see what the readings showed if he was questioned about the validity of that statement.

ironically its a bill been sold to cut red tape, by the party which has put more red tape on teachers/police than any other in the history of our great empire. I wounder if future generations will think its called red tape just because of labour.
