    Post First Build

Hey, What do you's think of this as a first build.

    http://www.scan.co.uk/savedbasket/28...3722795c26ade0

I'm not going to use Scansure either so reduce that from the price and the delivery will probably be free by the time I order as I need to be a member of AV Forums for 2 weeks and my exams finish in 2 weeks when I order this.

    Thanks

    Re: First Build

For the price of that gtx580 you could buy 2x6950 which would have much better performance. also, if it has reference design, then there's a possibility to unlock them to full 6970s

otherwise you could wait a few weeks, and see how bulldozer performs. afaik the release date is in june.

it might be competitive enough to push the prices down.

Went for the 580 because I plan on doing SLI in the not to distant future and as for the bulldozer, I'm not waiting any longer than I have to.

I've waited 2 years, never had the money (something always went wrong) and this was when I had a £600 budget and now I have £1500 or £2100 but want to keep money, I want to get a new one as soon as my exams finish.

Lol that's been annoying me for a while lol and I seem to be more of an nvidia fan lately but if it was last year I probably would have went with ati because of their price for performance.

Joined here for the scan free delivery because AV forums take 2 weeks for it and then I'd have to wait an extra day to get the parts lol and I don't want to wait but now that I've started in the forums the community is good and I enjoy it.

btw is there a gallery section or just post them in this thread or in a new one in the hardware section?

    Re: First Build

If the machine is mainly for gaming I would recommend dropping down to the 2500k. There is little to no benefit of the 2600k for this purpose.

Also, if you intend to sli those 580s you will likely need a more powerful PSU to be on the safe side. The corsair AX range is very good (I have one) though would be wary of only 850W if this is you intended goal. Further, sli is MASSIVE overkill for that monitors resolution, it is only needed if gaming on a 30" or going eyefinity.

Most important though is no SSD on that system. It will be the single biggest upgrade you could buy.

Nope no gallery, Yep I agree Hexus has a great community with very knowledgeable members. As the post above has mentioned I would look to get a SSD, having such a high spec machine without an SSD would be a massive shame.

Yeh knew about the 2500k and the 2600k but just want the 2600k for the sake of it as its not that much more and it's the best in its category and by that I mean the sandybridge processors and as for the AX850 someone from another forum has the same setup and theirs is fine and maybe in the future when I get the 2nd gtx 580 I'll upgrade my monitor or buy a 2nd 22" but for now I think that's fine and an SSD would be a further upgrade as for now I don't really want one, I mean it's main reason is booting the OS quicker and loading programs faster but its no big deal for me if its only seconds different on the OS, But I do plan on getting one in the future since everyone recommends it but for now I'll be fine cause their a little costly.
