hi there all, been trawling all over this website, and checking other websites to decide what components i need to build a new pc.

At the present i have a athlon 3200 xp cpu, 320gb hard drive and 160 gb system drive, 1.25gb of ram and a 7800 gs agp card, pretty ancient system, and pretty hopeless in playing games as well

My reason for building a new pc, is pretty much gaming, surfing the net and watching movies and listening to mp3.

I have already purchased from scan the following components

1 Tb samsung f3, corsair 650dw obsidian case, corsair ax 850watt, black widow extreme keyboard, roccat kone + mouse, Corsair sp2500 speaker system, pioneer dvd sata writer with label flash

What i havnt decided yet is the motherboard and cpu as am waitng to see whether bulldozer is worth going for and also whether it have a affect on intel pricing when it does come out.

If i buy intel its the z68 chipset as there a gigabyte mobo coming out wth 20 gb of ssd built in useful for caching games stored on the samsung spinpoint.

I have decided to purchase a ati 6990 gfx card, at the moment there are some price variations with different manufacturers of ati 6990 cards, wonder if they are the same or is it worth paying extra for what others card manufacturers are asking for.

I also need a ssd drive and the corsair force 3 120 gb interests me, also will be overclockin the cpu and will need a corsair h80 or h100 cooler.

i was also looking at soundcards there the asus xonar d2 pcie which fit my price range.

My budget around £1700, the aim is to keep the pc and upgrade it when needed.

looks like bulldozer delayed to july or august apparantly they got problems, respining the silicon to b3 version, the tdp and performance of the b2 version not competitive.

In the meantime am looking at the latest motherboards for the z68 chipset, from asus republic of gamers etc

Considering that Anandtech has a very close relationship with Intel I would be a tad careful. After all they had Sandy Bridge and Westmere-EX processors long before any other website.

been looking at various motherboards the gigabyte ud7 z68 looks nice, am gonna add a soundcard the xonar d2 which is pci and the gfx card is the ati 6990 cooler by corsair the h60 or the h80 when that comes out, but it a wait and see what new boards are coming out in a few weeks.

Which graphic card manufacturer makes the best ati cards need one that has great warranty, got most of the stuff all boxed up not open makes me feel impatient !!

Except AMD has said nothing about a delay. If he is right fair enough. However,at most it is just rumours ATM and he cannot even back them up. The problem is that when a website like Anandtech reports a rumour as fact, it is taken as a fact. Now forums are full of AMD is going fail and go the way of VIA,etc.

Yet with Intel he only reports what they have told him or given him to test.

He, by his own admission says Intel is secretive about their products:
"A while ago Intel decided that a nice way to drive up its stock price would be to behave more like Apple, keeping major announcements under wraps and introducing them on its own terms to hopefully build up anticipation and excitement for Intel's announcements. "

AMD has done exactly the same thing recently when it comes to its CPUs and GPUs. Even JF-AMD has stated that AMD won't release performance benchmarks until the product is launched.

update, went to scan and got the following components
cpu intel i7 2600k unlocked, motherboard gigabyte z68 ud7, ram corsair 8gb ddr 3 1600 xms3, cooler corsair h70, graphic card xfx 6990 1 tb samsung spinpoint f3 sata 2, 1 tb western digital caviar blue sata 3, windows professional 7 retail 64 bit, the only bit i need is the ssd 120 gb corsair force 3, so when i got more funds i will get the ssd drive and reinstal windows 7 on that drive... looking forward to getting the pc all set up as at the moment its in the shop for assembling

Did you order a new case as well with it? Nice selection of components, that UD7 is a fine looking MB.

next thing to add a ssd drive 120gb and use the intel irst to cache the data on the tb looking at the corsair force 3 went to scan but was told they had to recall them

in the meantime enjoying the pc and its a learnin experience for me as it got windows 7 retail 64 bit professional and i have been using xp for 7 years

If you have a ssd as your boot drive there is no need to use the cache feature of z68 chipset. A 120gb SSd has plentiful of space for os, programs and extras.

true but i want to use the cache for speeding up games loading they all on the hds, use the ssd for windows and application at the moment its wow at the performance and looks as well the guy at the shop was gobsmacked when he told me it took just five minutes to install windows as opposed to 15 on a boggo standard pc
