What is your PC used for??

TBH,it looks fine. If you are willing to overclock your Core i5 and HD5850 you will get a decent performance boost too.

    Re: Looking to upgrading PC

I mainly use it for gaming. I was concerned on paying alot of money for upgrades that wont give me much of a performance boost, but will have to look into overclocking.

Also would it be worth looking into getting a SSD? I have heard some good things about them but they seem rather expensive.

A modern core i5 is faster than your i5 750, but TBH even at stock a Core i5 750 should be fine and if you overclock it a bit with a aftermarket cooler means it will last a bit longer.

If anything I would be inclined to upgrade to Ivy Bridge in 2012 if the need arises and until you find a game which actually taxes your CPU too much I would keep it.

The AMD HD7000 series and their Nvidia equivalents might launch towards the end of next year or early next year. My HD5850 1GB will hit HD5870 1GB clockspeeds at HD5870 1GB voltages and can be overclocked further. Even at HD5870 1GB clockspeeds,an HD5850 1GB should be around HD6870 1GB level speed IMHO.

If you want to upgrade efficiently check reviews before buying a game to get an idea of its realworld performance.

Beware of people on forums who make you think you need to upgrade. In many cases games will be fine and if the system feels a bit sluggish I would re-install the OS and/or get a faster boot disc.

SSDs help a system feel more responsive, and help load times and system boot times. However,it will not improve framerates.

If you have a 64 bit OS it might be worth picking up another 4GB of RAM as RAM is cheap. OTH,8GB sets are not too expensive and having only two DIMMs usually helps overclocking.
