    Which 775 motherboard?

Hi all. well i recentlny bought a very expensive imac so i cant afford an all siginf and dancing PC. I recently bought BF3 and when i tried it on bootcamp it was unplayable.

I recently bought BF3 and when i tried it on bootcamp it was unplayable.

Any way i am looking at building a budget PC using second hand components. see how cheaply i can get a PC together that is capable of playing bf2 at high settings.

I have a coolermaster Cosmos S case with a 240 XSPC rad fitted and all the blocks pumps etc for a socket 775 system. I also have a BFG 280 or 285 GTX 1gb graphics card.

I have been reading about the huge overclocking potential of the E2140 / 60 /80. using a water cooling system a 3.6 stable and cool overclock is a reality. these chips sell for about the £10 mark on ebay. So i will need a decent but cheap board and ram. looking to spend about £60 on the lot. I know its a big ask...

    Any suggestions?

    Hey,

You can buy a socket 775 drr3 motherboard, since ddr3 is so cheap now a days you get can 8GB easily.

gigabyte is the brand I recommend, but you can try asus and others. Just search they are pretty cheap mtoherboards £30-£40 brand new. Scan has some to offer aswell.

    Re: Which 775 motherboard?

Hi mate thanks for getting back to me. Have a look at my beg steal borrow build spec, i would like to get as close to 4Ghz as possible with the e2180.

With this in mind and the fact that i have acquired (donation) some DDR3 Ram, a DDR3 board may be a better option. they all seem to be G41.

So the choice is get a new DDR 3 G41 or get a second hand SLI for a similar price which gives me future expansion options and a wider choice of chipsets.

Tough decision. any other ideas?? surly thre must be a hands down best overclocking 775 motherboard out there?

    i have one of these:

    http://uk.asus.com/Motherboards/Inte...5/P5P43TD_PRO/

Which i used to use with a Q6600. I had that overclocked to 3.2 24/7 stable if you are interested?

    Asking £25 delivered.

Only downside is im away from home at the moment so you would have to wait till next week. I also have the Q6600 if you want that?

    Re: Which 775 motherboard?

unfortunantly the G41 max FSB is 1333mhz so anything above 333mhz on the cpu is pushing it, however the chip you mentioned has a multiplier of 10, so a 3.3GHz overclock is possible.

Since you want atleast 4GHz you should properly go for a 1600mhz fsb motherboard but they are pretty rare in shops so your best bet is ebay or something like that.

Hmm. So would ASUS P5N72-T Pro that has a fsb rating of 1600 oc. Would that be a better option to hit the 4 ghz or damn close?

    Re: Which 775 motherboard?

Does it matter what size motherboard? If you are happy with micro ATX then check the Scan site- from £35 or if you're confidant sans warranty then go ebay and risk it? I bought my processor from Ebay and it was fine- just double check their feedback first.
