    What do you have know??

What are your main uses for the PC?

If it is a gaming build,a Core i5 2500K is a good option too.

TBH,I would wait until May or thereabouts. Ivy Bridge and Kepler will be out.

    Re: New build

i have an e6750 core duo
    2 gig ram
    xp
    nvidia gtx 550 ti
2x 500 gb sata in raid
    antec 900 case
antec cool blue psu , 650 i think
the pc is used for gaming mostly ,

is the performance of an i5 board/cpu combo compareable to the x79 board/cpu combo ? i'm kinda looking at the same price if i can get a 3820 in feb . then i am ivy bridge compatible also .

i also want to install an ssd drive and upgrade to win 7 ,.

    Re: New build

2500K is a great CPU, but like CAT-THE-FIFTH say, May with Ivy Bridge and Kepler is a better time to upgrade. Sandy Bridge mobo can be Ivy Bridge compatible with BIOS update, but I think you won't be get to to use all the feature of Ivy Bridge.

Doesnt mean you can't get a SSD and Win7 now. Maybe consider adding 2gb more RAM or even something like a ATI 6850 untill then.

    Re: New build

It depends what you need, I built an i7 gaming rig cause I had the money, but a 2500k would suffice, and now it isn't ever going to be worth upgrading to ivybridge/kepler as I won't need the performance, so it's all up to you to be honest.

    Re: New build

Honestly, if you've waited till now you can wait till May(ish) at least too see the reviews and decide if ivy bridge is worth the extra money over sandy bridge

But if it's not, get a 2500k and the new nvidia cards (kepler)
You will have a formidable gaming machine for years to come and Sandy Bridge is very well priced for the performance

    Re: New build

Are you going to be a heavy gamer? If your using a c2d now are dealing fine you won't need i7's, sandybridge or ivybridge, stick with i5's or even i3 if your not throttling your machine with loads of games etc.

    Re: New build

thanks for all the help . i decided to go 3930k and sabertooth mb . i only put in 8 gb ram and no ssd atm , but at least i have room to grow , i put an h80 on the cpu and it runs fine , i don't intend to overclock . i got a case for $44 from tiger direct and need to mod it a bit to get the cpu in . i intend to put a 120 or 240 gb drive in as a boot drive in the future , i have a 1 tb wd with 64 meg cache and it runs at 7200 , not bad but with an ssd and drive cache it will improve it a lot , my one caveat atm is upgradeing the bios , seems not to want to dload the updates ,
