    New budget mATX gaming build

    Hi guys
I used to build PCs a few years back so I know what I'm doing, just slightly out of touch with the latest hardware! My last PC was an Athlon 64 3000+, 1gb, 6600GT, it's been dead a while now!

Looking to get back into gaming with a new budget PC, but I don't have much room so I'm after something small, and quiet as well. Really don't care about looks as it'll probably be hidden away!

I already have monitors (Dell U2412M and E228WFP) and couple of external HDDs (2TB and 640GB) for storage.

Here's what I've come up with:

    Intel Core i5 2550K 3.4GHz Socker 1155 6MB Cache Retail Boxed Processor £181.00
    Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600Mhz CL9 1.5V Non-ECC Unbuffered £46.66
Gigabyte GTX 560 OC Edition 1GB GDDR5 Dual DVI Mini HDMI PCI-E Graphics Card £137.97
Coolermaster Elite 343 Micro ATX Case £34.00
Corsair Hydro Series H60 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler £49.95
Fractal Design 92mm Case Fan £4.64
Sony AD-7280S 24x DVD±RW with DL & RAM SATA Optical Drive - OEM Black £13.98
    Asus P8H61-M LE/USB3 Intel H61 Socket 1155 8 Channel HD Audio mATX Motherboard £50.57
    Corsair TX550M 550W Modular PSU £67.00
    OCZ 120GB Agility 3 SSD - SATA-III - Read 525MB/s Write 500MB/s 85,000 IOPS £109.98

    Total price £695.75
Prices are from ebuyer but I'll buy from whoever has the best deal at the time!

    What do you think?

the 2550K and H61 board are a pointless combo as you can't overclock on H61 boards. If you want to overclock you need P67/Z68.

for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

drop the CPU to a i5 2400 then. You won't notice the drop in clockspeed and you're not paying over the odds for a overclockable part.

TBH: I'd probably go with an i3 2120 myself.

    This motherboard is better:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/gigab...hdmi-micro-atx

If you are not going to upgrade for quite a few years, this CPU is also worth considering:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/gigab...hdmi-micro-atx

It is basically a slightly underclocked Core i7 2600 with no IGP and has a lower 80W TDP too.

Also, ditch the water cooler. The standard Intel cooler should do the job.

Noted Probs will go for the i5-2400 over the i3, just because I don't like the name =P

    Which CPU did you mean?

The water cooler was mainly for noise purposes, and for a bit of a play really. What are the stock coolers like these days? Last time I built, the intel ones were crap, but that was in the days of the P4 Prescott...

    Ta for help guys!

    I meant this CPU:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/intel...tio-80w-retail

    I have a Core i3 2100 and it is fine with my HD5850 1GB.
