    New SB-E Build

    Hi All,

Would love your review on the build below, it has been posted on other forums but nothing like asking more people

    • CPU - 3930k
    • CPU Cooling - Corsair H100
    • Motherboard - Asus x79 Sabertooth
    • RAM - (may change) 32GB Corsair Dominator kit
    • OS Drive - ~128GB SSD, at this point unsure but possibly an OCZ Vertex
    • 2nd Drive - ~240GB SSD probably similar choice to above
    • Mass storage HDD - Not overly fussed on this - 2TB of storage
    • PSU - fully modular is preferable and still debating on this
    • GPU - I will be shifting my existing GPU while I wait to see what Kepler is like
    • Case - Antec P280
    • Probably a few decent and quiet 120mm fans to add to the case

I'm not too fussed about an optical drive though I might get a cheap SATA one for the (very) odd occasion I need it.

I welcome any and all feedback - no doubt the 'why 3930' will come up - the work I do benefits from many cores and high RAM

    Re: New SB-E Build

Jesus that will cost a fortune. I'm a bit jealous.

Dabs ebay shop were selling Sony DVD rw drives for £13. Noisy as hell but like you I very very rarely use it so it does the job.

For a PSU I just bought a fully modular XFX (made by Seasonic) and I can recommend it highly. It is slightly larger than normal though so I lost my bottom 120mm fan.

Why do you need 2 SSD's? Surely one large one would be better as the larger ones have faster read/write speeds. I'd personally stay clear of OCZ but that's not from personal opinion and more a lot of haters on forums about reliability and a pants RMA system.

I seriously doubt you need 32GB of memory. 16 is more than enough. As for the PSU, go for an XFX 750W or Corsair 750W. And I second bigdaz's comment about the ssd's. I would buy a 240GB Intel 520, Sandisk extreme or kingston hyperx. Or if you can afford it, buy a 512 crucial m4 or vertex 4.
Have you looked at the fractal design cases, if you're into silence ?

For the PSU I'd also recommend the XFX 750W. Although if you're planning on buying the parts soon the XFX 850W is on sale right now on overclockers for just a few pounds more.

    Re: New SB-E Build

    Hello there,

I'm actually thinking of setting up a new rig based on the x79 platform myself. I would agree with Ghost_Florian 32GB of ram may be overkill. Why not using 16GB instead and investing the money on a better power supply i.e. an enermax or an antec.

I'm also not very keen on the H100, I know performance wise its supposed to be top notch....But I've read too many cases of people having problems with it, build quality seems to be lacking there. Then again I've never used it myself so I'm only judging from what I read on other people posts.....What about the NH-D14 2011 edition from Noctua?
