    Help with Build #1

    Hey Guys,

I have been playing around on Scan this evening and think I’m fairly close to completing my first build. I’ve got a list of all of my components so far but would like it if someone could read over things and make sure I’ve got everything correct and a good solid build.

I decided in the end that the three monitor set up would be too much and that I would rather have one monitor and a better main build because I can always add additional monitors at a later date.

This is what I have come up with so far:

It would be much appreciated if you guys could read over my build and advise me on any mistakes, ways to better budget my money and basically get the best computer I can for my budget of £1500-£1600

    Thanks a lot,
    Rookie

    The motherboard is OTT.

That HD7950 3GB is not worth it at nearly £335 with the price reductions of the HD7970 3GB. HD7970 3GB cards are starting to hit around £360 on special offers.

I would also stick to one 240GB or 256GB SSD too.

Yes agree withb Cat - you probably could save £50 on the motherboard and not notice the difference.

Out of interest why go for the retail copy of Windows?

Why not save £45 and go for the OEM one: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/micro...tem-single-oem

    Hey,
    70
    What Motherboard would you recommend?

TBH I didn’t even think about the HD 7970 because the 7950 can be clocked to the same speeds as the standard 7970 (or so I’ve read) but if it is only a minor increase then I guess it might be worth it. Will the 7970 fit in the nzxt case?

This is a little embarrassing, I hadn’t even noticed that scan sold SSD of that size, I must have clicked on the “SSD - 2.5" - SATA III - (60GB - 180GB)” link and not noticed.

    Re: Help with Build #1

You can buy the OEM windows as long as you buy it with a "major component", though in reality even a cheap mouse can count The license is then tied to the machine, not the component, but again you can pretty much do anything to the machine without issue.

Not been on here much over the weekend, but notice you posted your old machine specs. I suspect your old machine would go like hell with the new graphics card in it, should you want to defer/spread the whole update.

Well thats good to hear, will mean I can save a few £££ there. I was tempted to just do the GPU upgrade but I have the money now from a PPI claim so if I don't buy a new one I'm sure to just waste it over the next few months on silly things.
