Long time planned build but would love some experience advice. £1000 maximum

    Hi guys,

So first time I have posted something like this but would love some advice on the current look of my build (not bought):

MSI Z77-G65 or ASRock Extreme 6
    Akasa VenomToxic Full Tower
    i5-3570K
    Samsung 256 GB SSD
    HIS 6950 2GB or 2GB 7850
    8 GB Gskill Ripjaw 1600MHz
750W Modular PSU (any vendor open to suggestions)

I have looked everywhere for bargains regarding this build and would love to keep costs down (would love to spend a load of money but don't have it). We also need a screen, ideally IPS or P-IPS but TN will be fine as long as there is no ghosting with gaming.

Extremely open to suggestions regarding what components or additions you guys would make. Since IT is my job I would like to think I am quite savvy however I am sure I will be proved wrong.

Looks pretty good. Is this a full on gaming machine ?

    I love my U2412M...
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

Can't say much about the motherboard, since I only ever bought ASUS. Pretty much I would choose the ASRock since it's subsidized by ASUS. Also might want to drop it to a Extreme4 and save some money.

    These are the differences.
    - The Extreme6 has DisplayPort with max. resolution up to 2560x1600 @ 60Hz
    - The Extreme6 has extra 1 x PCI Express 2.0 x1 slot & 1 x mini-PCI Express slot
    - The Extreme6 uses Etron EJ168A USB 3.0 controller instead of the Extreme4s Asmedia ASM1042
    - The Extreme6 uses Z68 Extreme4 style MOSFET heatsinks
    - The Extreme6 comes with front panel USB3
If these are mostly irrelevant I don't see a reason to pay 30-40 more quid, specially considering the DisplayPort can be a premium that raises prices.

Are you going to get a aftermarket cooler? Now or later?

As for the SSD, do you have a HDD for normal storage? If you manage well, it is possible to run with a 128gb. Googling sean's ssd guide will show some good tips, specially removal of the hibernation files and using a program called Steam Mover which isn't restricted to just Steam game folders.

The 6950 might do well, but the 7850 seems to be the current best value in the market, considering it can be overclocked very well to 79xx levels.

For the PSU, something like a Corsair HX or AX, Seasonic X series. Seasonic seems to make a few for other brands, the Corsair included.

For a monitor, I am very pleased with my Dell U2412m (e-IPS), big difference having the extra height. But if in need of something cheaper and TN panel, can't go wrong with ASUS.
