Yeah looks great, just keep an eye out on the 'today only' offers as many of these components have been on offer recently and might be again.

You could save a few pounds getting a Samsung 830 instead, but otherwise that looks good.

Re: First thoughts on a new build

    Nice build. Few suggestions:

Ive seen the Samsung 830 out perform the m4 is quite a few tests. I'd have a look at that.

Asus P8Z77-V might be a nice option to consider for your mobo - silghtly better power delivery than the Gigabyte & has built in wifi (with a tone of features, i.e. remote desktop on any android or iOS phone).

Best priced 670 ive found is: http://www.waeplus.co.uk/product/316...-GDDR5---PCI-E
The gigabyte card might OC silghtly better but at £281 thats a £50 saving.

As for where to shop, generally - Scan & Ebuyer have the best ratings & service. WAE+ regularly have some brilliant graphics card offers, well worth a poke around.

Just a warning about WAE I just saw on UKHD:
Spread the word, WAE (previously known as WeAreElectricals) is a total and utter 100% scam. I think they just setup an automatic pricing to undercut everyone else to appear tempting. Doesn't matter to them, because you'll never receive the item!

Yeah, I wouldn't touch WAE with a 10ft pole. I'd be surprised if anyone had actually received anything from them without having to chase it up at least once.

Re: First thoughts on a new build

well, was scanning through the Today Only page (scanning, get it , get it???) ahem, and just about every item was on there except the case.

so bit the bullet, bought the lot including a couple of 45cm Sata 3 cables (never sure if OEM hard drives come with them, prolly not) and an OCZ modular PSU (the one in Cats post). So, im out of pocket by 907 some pounds, but it looks like the makings of a decent rig.

Monitor and new speakers to come tho, shame i cant link it up to my home theatre..... yet...

Big thanks for all the input, all duly considered and devices amended or discarded, major thanks of course to our resident Moose who has been fantastic with his build page and his relentless enthusiasm for finding the best combination of parts for the best build.

Re: First thoughts on a new build

You say almost all the items you required were on Today Only except the case. The FD R3 is on at £67.19 so did you get it elsewhere and was it cheaper? I ask because I am looking to order one and wondered if you had found a good deal elsewhere.

PC up and running, havent got the 2nd hard drive formatted yet, have ran 3dmark11 and got a score of P8148, boots in about 12-15 seconds, stunned by how smooth it is atm, fair few things to get done to it yet, but right now very very pleased with the build, oh and its quiet
