Christmas Gaming Rig Advice (All replies are appreciated)

    Hello all!

I posted a similar thread a few months ago and most of the replies that I got told me that I was jumping the gun my a considerable margin. Anyway, yet again I hope to attain some build advice from you all. Much appreciated.

CPU - Intel CPU Core i5 3570K OEM
    MOBO - Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H Motherboard
    HDD - ST2000DM001 Seagate 2TB Barracuda
Case - NZXT Tempest 410 Elite Case
    PSU - Silverstone SST-ST60F-ES Strider 600W
CPU Cooler - Coolermaster Hyper 212 CPU Cool er
    Undecided DVD drive

I already have RAM and an OS. I will be adding a gtx 660, an SSD and some extra fans further down the line. My worries lie with the motherboard and PSU. I hope to get the CPU to at least north of 4ghz. Will the above hardware be enough? Thank you all for any replies.

Edit: My current budget is a around £550

Is £550 excluding the graphics card?? I assume you are using the IGP for now??

Yes. I'm very sorry for being late to reply. I will be getting a graphics card at a later date and the budget I stated before does not include that. Thank you for your reply.

Being able to achieve an overclock is complete luck of the draw; some chips clock well, others not at all. You shouldn't have any problems with the hardware listed and the goals you hope to achieve, although the CPU cooler is perhaps a touch on the weak side.

Well you can certainly go for a lower wattage PSU. I would try and get the SSD first, perhaps delay the HDD, you presumably have an old one that can be used for now?

Well I've never heard of a 3570k that can't get over 4ghz, and the hyper 212 is perfectly adequate for a normal overclock.

You guys are very responsive I'm sorry I can't be the same. I won't be getting an SSD for a couple of months because I want to get the Samsung 840 when it gets cheaper. I'm sure I can handle shooting just short of 4ghz for my over clock, but hopefully I'll get to do better. I no longer have any doubts on my planned purchase. Thank you all.

Im currently shopping for an SSD too and some websites suggest that the Samsung 840 SSD (non pro version) is a bit of a cost saving exercise on Samsung's part.

Performance is similar and the 830 has the price advantage.

Your weekest link in the build will be your hard drive. You really need an ssd these days. If you get an ssd to start with, your not going to have the issues of rein stalling your os , or shrinking your 2tb drive to clone to fit an ssd.
