gaming PC for my son. please review.

This is a kit list that I would really like you to review for me as I am a first timer at building computers:
    1) XFX Core Edition Radeon HD 7770 AMD Graphics Card - 1GB
    2) Intel CPU Pentium G860 Socket 1155 Dual Core Processor
    3) 24x DVD+/-RW from Liteon IHAS124-04 OEM Black SATA Quiet
    4) Fractal Design Core 1000 micro-ATX Case takes Standard ATX PSU
    5) Corsair CP-9020058-UK CXM Builder series 430W Power Supply (PSU)
    6) MSI H61M-P31 (G3) Socket 1155 Micro ATX Motherboard
    7) Corsair Memory 4GB DDR3 1333 Mhz CAS 9 Dual Channel Desktop
    8) Seagate 500Gb 3.5" Barracuda Hard Drive 7200rpm 16MB Cache
    9) Windows 7 64BIT Professional (obviously I can't buy that from Scan)

Do you think that these would fit together to make a PC that can run games like Battlefield 3, Day Z or Arma 2, Team Fortress 2 and some other steam games like counter strike and Garry's mod etc.

Thank you very much for your time.

What Phage said.. Do you know what PSU comes with the case? Honestly you need to know that otherwise the video card might not work properly.. Honestly would try to see if you can get a corsair psu

For me MSI is not a good choice for a motherboard..

Rest of the stuff looks good..

What is the total budget? Both BF3 and Arma II tend to like at least a quad core or dual core with HT especially when you are running the game online. Day Z is based on ARMA II.

Looks okay I'd maybe swap out the hard drive for a 128 gig SSD at similar money - smaller but the speed difference loading games is massive.

the power supply might not be powerful enough for that graphics card. looks like the 7770 needs at least a 500w psu according to this guide (which also has a good list of recommended psu's).

Re: gaming PC for my son. please review.

Ignore recomendations based on wattage, what really matters is a stable output with lots of protection and good amps on the 12v rails. The XFX450 power supply has been the big seller recently, extremely good value for money and will more than suffice for the sort of machine you are trying to build here.

Does it really have to be a mATX? You might see better results going AMD FX and ATX for the kind of budget that this is looking like.

Whilst good for power supplies, XFX dont have the best track record for graphics cards. I would suggest looking at a different brand such as MSI.

Can only quote fellow member before me, post you budget here, CAT will give you the best deal around (which should be price safe +-5% for a week I would say).

First time PC builder? Anybody around who could assist you if need some help?

EDIT: Agree with the PSU change for a XFX 450W, that PSU can take some real machine.

If going with the Socket 1155 idea, did you looked at B75 chipset boards? For a little bit of extra will be technologically more advanced.

Based on a quick calculation, I estimated the budget of your currently lined up components around £335 + price of a OS (there is one for sale at the Classifieds section).

That was said in order for you to have access to cheaper OS. Non-essential in order to make a functional PC. Preferable but non-essential.

Re: gaming PC for my son. please review.

I'd recommend at least getting a AMD A10. FX---- or a i5 if you can.

Graphics card seems ok, but a 7870 might offer a bit more power :-P XFX, I think, just have a bad track record for bad customer service.

I'd definitely recommend getting parts from Scan or Amazon as their customer service is great - they've saved me a lot in not having to send my psu/GPU back to Germany! Just be aware of how long Scan's RTB is - its not always the full manufacturer warranty.

I am pretty sure that kind of suggested configuration would be entirely out of question in this section.
