    Talking New build. Thoughts?

I'm building a new system soon seen a haswell is out and im ready for an change and im going to uni soon so il do it while i can. Im thinking of going for:

    CPU: Intel CPU i5 4670K
Cooler: Phanteks PH-TC12X-RD U-Type Dual Tower Premier CPU Cooler Red Edition
    Mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z87MX-D3H or ASRock Z87M EXTREME4
RAM: Corsair Memory Vengeance Pro Series Red 8GB DDR3 1600 MHz
Case: Silverstone Temjin Evolotion Black Mini Tower Case

Heres what i already have and plan to put in the build:
GPU: Asus 7970 Direct cuii Top Edition
    PSU: Seasonic m12ii bronze 650w

Im not set on any HDD's or SSD's yet il probably just look at these when i start but il just use my current HDD.

    Any comments welcome!

Well don't pick the Gigabyte motherboard, it's blue, won't fit your red colour scheme!

But yeah the ASRock MB should be superior, I might use that one myself.

The Corsair RAM is very expensive for what it is.
You can get the same specs for far less:

Nice build, although I think the Phanteks PH-TC12X-RD is a bit pricey red anodized fins does give it a unique look.

£40 is hardly pricey for a decent CPU cooler it's a lot cheaper than many models, and you do need decent cooling for a high overclock.

£43 http://www.scan.co.uk/products/phant...-intel-and-amd apart from the 2nd fan you can get something decent like the hyper 212 evo for under £25
But it doesn't look as pretty but does the PH-TC12X-RD actually cool that much better?

    Yes it does:

    A 20 degree difference here.
There's not much difference at low loads, but as we know Haswell puts out a lot of heat.

    Re: New build. Thoughts?

The ASRock board was my first choice. If i did go for the gigabyte mobo i would probably go for the blue cooler and blue ram. Il look into that ram. Cheers!

You'd need a blue graphics card as well!

    Re: New build. Thoughts?

Yes I've seen that review, notice the way the it's only 20c worse on the overclocked and stress test load otherwise it's about 1-2c behind and that's only with one fan.

All the heat issues with the haswell I've seen so far are directly linked to overclocking not running at stock speeds.

but for the sake of £5-10 on this build might as well go for the phanteks for the pretty colour

    Re: New build. Thoughts?

If he is getting a 4670K I assume he is overclocking.

With people getting throttling using high end AIO water cooling I'd rather not take the risk with a 212 Evo.

Lot's of reviews on that board around the web, seems a very solid choice.

    Re: New build. Thoughts?

I'm getting the MSI Z87 G45 board which has a pretty sick look to it ( can get the gd65 too). Could fit well with the parts you have.

    Re: New build. Thoughts?

im going msi g45 as well looks good and reviews well and not much difference between that and the g65 version. I also looked at the phantek cooler in red, think it would look awesome only got put off because of the size of it lol but it cools very well according to the reviews. In the end I opted for an alphenfohn brocken 2 for the cooler.
