Hi guys, attempting to get back in the game after a couple of years away. My last and only build was a Sandy Bridge gaming rig back in November 2011 and yeah it's still doing me proud, soldiering away etc - haven't made it blow up lol.
Anyway I'm moving into a new place, my gaming pc is still going to be ticking over nicely but I fancied building something and because I want to play HD films (and maybe one day UHD ) on my tv without any hassle and also keep said HD films in one central place, I thought (after toying with attempting a NAS/HTPC combo) it would be a good idea to build one of each and sort of stream from the NAS to the HTPC or am I overcomplicating things?
NAS Build
CPU Intel Core i3-4150 3.5GHz Dual-Core
Motherboard Gigabyte GA-H97N-WIFI Mini ITX LGA1150
Memory Kingston HyperX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600
Storage 4 x Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM (4 in 2 different RAID 1 volumes)
Case Cooler Master Elite 120 Advanced (White) Mini ITX Tower
Power Supply FSP Group 270W Mini ITX
It might be a bit too much - lots of RAM/Processor speed etc but according to my research OSes like FreeNAS like lots of RAM.
HTPC Build
CPU AMD A10-6700 3.7GHz Quad-Core
Motherboard MSI A88XI AC Mini ITX FM2+
Memory Kingston Black Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600Mhz
Storage Samsung 840 EVO 500GB 2.5" SSD
Case Inwin H-Frame Mini Blue Mini ITX Tower w/180W Power Supply
Again, might be a bit much but hopefully you chaps will help me in that area
Any feedback is most welcome, desperately need something to do though so I don't go barmy!
