more accurate to say that fastest "supported" memory is 1866. The default is whatever your RAM's JEDEC speed is - you won't stop your PC working by having 1600, 1333 or even 1066 DDR3
I know Phenom II's actually tended to benefit from slower RAM with tighter timings. Bottom line is that RAM speed is rarely a real world bottleneck, and when overclocking via FSB you're always likely to need to mess with the RAM dividers to get your RAM back to a reasonable speed.
HELLP!
Components have arrived and I have assembled, but there is a red CPU LED on when I boot it, and cannot figure out what it is.
I have checked the processor and it looks fine, checked ram and power cables. All seems fine but wont boot and red CPU LED?
ANy Ideas?
Do you have any beep codes?
What does the motherboard manual say the LED indicator is for? Usually will say something like CPU, Mem, NB, Power Phase.
I linked this earlier in the thread but sounds like you have the same issue I had with my sabertooth 2.0

If it is the CPU LED being constant red, the interwebs suggest in the first instance ensuring the 24 pin connector and 8 pin CPU power connector are connected and seated correctly.
Start with that and if 100% sure they are OK check out what Dooms says.
I tried flashing the BIOS but this did not work.
I followed the instructions on your post an downloaded the most up to date bios.
When flashing the light only flashed 6 or 7 times before going solid, and it did this with or without the USB in, so I don't think it was actually doing anything.
Is there maybe a step that I missed, or is there a trick to getting it to work???
Okay, I have been able to flash the bios, but the light is still there.
Any ideas?
Who did you buy the parts from? Last time I was in this situation, I had bought the parts from Scan so I shipped them back the motherboard, RAM and CPU and asked them to work out which bit was broken as I couldn't swap out any of those parts.
Are you able to source a speaker so you can hear the beep codes? Usually these are quiet helpful as it will suggest the part of the system that's not working.
If you are still having issues then I usually do the following:
- Reset CMOS
- Reseat CPU
- Unplug everything bar the 24 pin and 8 pin power and CPU, CPU HSF and start with one stick of RAM in the first slot (ie no GFX card in or HDD's or USB devices)
- If that doesn't work try the RAM in the next slot and repeat until you have tried all mem slots
- If that doesn't work try the last 2 steps with a different stick of RAM
- Try a different PSU
- Try as many of the new parts as possible in an existing rig that you know works to see if you can determine which bit is not working
- If none of that works start raising some RMA's to return items
Hi guys... New motherboard arrived this morning, and worked perfectly out of the box, so this confirms that the other mobo was DOA.
A waste of my time, but I have a working, beautiful, amazing computer now and im happy. Thanks for your help!
If you wanna see photos, let me know.... Nothing too special....BUT I LOVE IT!
Great stuff, glad you got it sorted!
i have a a6-6400k cpu which is half the price and oc'd it to 4.5 ghz under a khuler 620. could get a good gaming machine for a lot less too.
