New PC build for son's first machine

Building a first PC for Minecraft for my son.

1TB WD Blue WD10EZEX SATA
2GB MSI GT 720
8GB (1x8GB) Corsair DDR4 Vengeance LPX Black
MSI H110M PRO-VD, Intel H110
Intel Pentium G4400

main parts are above, managed to get it all (base, screen & Keyb/mouse) in budget of £420 inc Windows 10

If you had bought an A8 7600 it would have a faster IGP - the GT720 is a slow card!! Mates have earlier APUs and Minecraft runs fine on them.

The GT640 is a faster card than the GT720.



The A8 IGP in the A8 7600 is generally as fast or faster than the IGP in the A10 5800K.

unfortunately with the budget constraints given to me meant choosing a basic entry level card for now, part wise AMD is to much of a mine field over Intel

Yeah, that GT 720 was a complete waste of money. It's not going to be much faster than the integrated graphics on the G4400, and definitely slower than the HD 530 graphics on the next model up, the G4500.

You really need to be spending £85-90 on a GTX 750ti or R7 360 before a dedicated graphics card makes sense from the point of view of gaming performance:

Sadly I think you have demonstrated that the Intel/Nvidia route is far from easy . However, it should be capable of playing Minecraft you will just have to keep the viewing distance fairly low.

At worst, slap in something like http://www.ebuyer.com/714687-gigabyt...-gv-r736oc-2gd in the future and the system should really fly in Minecraft.

Might not be too late to return the GT720 to be fair if it was only ordered on Wednesday. Infact it would make sense to return the Pentium, RAM, motherboard and GT720 and just go for AMD-7600 + compabitible motherboard and DDR3 RAM which would cost roughly the same or less to be honest.

I agree TBH, entry-level GPUs like that are rarely a good purchase for new systems nowadays because of how fast integrated GPUs have become.
