    New PC build

    Hi all.

    I've had problems with my last couple of builds so I figured I'd get some feedback for this next one.

    Motherboard = MSI 990FXA
    CPU = AMD FX8350
    Graphics = MSI GTX 970 4 Gig
    RAM = HyperX Savage, 2 x 8Gig 2133 DDR3
    SSD = Crucial MX200, 500Gig
    PSU = Corsair RM850
    Windows 7

    There will also be a couple of bits from my present system in it,

    Crucial BX100 120Gig SSD (I plan to put the OS on this)
    Western Digital Blue 1Tb (mass storage. Photos, Music etc.)

    Basically I'd just like to know if anyone can see any glaring incompatibility problems here.
    I prefer AMD and Nvidia and have always had good results with MSI kit so I'm sticking to those.

    I was going to go,

    Motherboard = Asus Crosshair V formula-Z
    CPU = AMD FX9590

    but I have read that the 9590 isn't worth the extra expense over the 8350 and with the need for a more
    expensive motherboard to power the CPU it seems sensible to go 8350. Any thoughts on that?

    Thanks all.

    EDIT = replaced PSU

    Re: New PC build

    The 990FXA has the FX-9590 on it's compatibility list.

    AMD's FX series isn't really competitive for gaming now, assuming that's what the system is for. The FX-8320/8350 offers i3 level performance at stock speeds and while it used to have overclocking to give it a bit of help, with Skylake bclk overclocking an i3 will do that better too.

    On the other hand if you're not buying an FX series for value for money, it makes more sense to go for the best binned chips and pick up an FX-9590.

    AMD's graphics cards are much more tempting, and I would default to a 390 or 390X instead of a 970. Which is best partly depends on whether you're buying a new screen soon - nVidia's variable refresh rate support is currently limited to their own, expensive, G-sync technology - and how much you value nVidia's more media/streaming focused features like Shadowplay, better HEVC support and HDMI 2.0.

    It's true that AMD's mid-range cards (380/390/390X) are less power efficient, but the coolers do tend to be very good so they're often no noisier.

    Thanks for the reply Endless.

    I could swear I have read that the 990FXA lacks the wattage to power that chip but I can't find the reference now. Still, that is the board I fancy so all good there.

    I have had bad experiences with AMD cards and will stick with Nvidia until they let me down as well.

    Thanks again

    I would probably go with a Core i5 and a R9 390 personally.
