    Should I upgrade

Hi all (sorry if multiple post, for some reason the first one went strange)

I am looking to potentially upgrade but not sure if I would benefit at all.

Firstly, I run on a 24" Monitor at 1920x1080 and I mainly enjoy FPS games.
    Current spec is:

    MSI z77 Mpower
    i7 3770k@stock
    16GB Savage Ram @ Stock
    MSI 9800TI Gaming
    Samsung 250GB Evo 850
    2x1tb WD 10ezex Drives
    X-fi titanium HD sound card

It might just be that I want to spend money for the sake of it, but im so long in the tooth when it comes to new CPU enhancements, that im not sure if I am massivly missing out.

    Appreciate your time all

    Re: Should I upgrade

You don't mention the type of cooling you're using on your 3770K, but if you've got a half-decent cooler, the first thing I'd do is overclock your CPU - it's basically a 'free' upgrade I'm currently using an Ivybridge CPU too - a 3570K - and running it at 4.5Ghz, without any difficulty. Your CPU is still a pretty capable processor, even after all these years. Which FPS games do you play, and what kind of frame-rates are you getting? I play a lot of FPS games too, but at 2560x1440 on a 1070 GPU, and in Battlefield 1 for example, I'm averaging about 100fps at medium video quality. You might find that your money is best spent on a new GPU rather than a CPU - it all depends on whether you're being CPU limited at 1080p on the games you're playing.

I think there is a typo in the GPU, is that a 9800 GTX or a 980ti ??

    Re: Should I upgrade

sorry yes its a GTX 980TI
Im used an arctic freezer 33 which keeps the temps below 40 at load.

Im thinking of getting shomething like a H55 just to keep cool the CPU better so I can overclock it a bit.

    Re: Should I upgrade

Well that looks like a pretty good system still, any upgrade is likely to be expensive so it comes down to budget.

A 1080 isn't much of an upgrade on a 980ti, so you are probably looking at a 1080ti if you want to go that route. That seems overkill at 1080p

Similarly you would feel an upgrade to the latest CPU, but unless you have a game that you feel is laggy it is hard to justify the rather high cost.

What sort of money were you looking at spending?

If you are into high speed twitch games, a 144Hz monitor might be a better spend.

    Many thanks for your input.
Yes, I was thinking about getting a new monitor instead as I have about £200-300 to play around with.
Ill see what 144hz monitors I can find around that price

    Re: Should I upgrade

It depends on the games - most of the games I play which are CPU limited on IB with a GTX1080FE are open world and online FPS games. However my IB CPU is locked - yours can be overclocked so I would try upping the clockspeed a bit.

    Edit!!

    What speed is your RAM??
