    Motherboard +Cpu +Ram Cooler?

So it's time to upgrade the ageing, trusty ol 3770k 4.3ghz, 16gb 1800mhz, and Asus P8Z77M-pro.....

Sorry if there's any stupid questions! I've not built a PC since this one! (2013ish??)

First stupid question.... Can I reuse my psu? it's a XFX 550W PRO, I think it's single rail 53Amp, its about 5 years old, I have never had a single problem with it, still in great condition, clean etc.

    I have:

RX 580 Pulse 8gb (so no need for a GC, I'll buy a new monitor before a GC TBH. That's for another day)
    PSU as above^^^
    Samsung evo SSD 840 250gb
    Seagate BarraCuda SSD 250gb
    Seagate BarraCuda HDD 1tb
Western Digital WD10EARS HDD 1 tb
Corsair H55 Hydro Series, Push and Pull (I doubt I'll bother using this)
    Windows 10 pro
Sharkoon case, ATX size, cant remember what its called.

So hopefully, just motherboard, cpu, ram........ budget is £450-£500, I would like to have an all AMD PC for a change!, I've not had one since an Athlon 1.6ghz 2000+

Even after reading and reading and reading I still have no idea what to buy! I play AAA games (1080p at the moment), internet/youtube/etc

Any Ideas would be great! obviously I would like an 8 core if possible, Ram 3200mhz+, and upgradable as possible, M2 drive later, maybe PCI-E 4?, etc

    Thanks for any help!

Edit: Obviously +CPU in the title!

    Re: Motherboard + Ram +Cooler

Yes, PSU reuse is fine. In general components have got more power efficient with new releases so even top range stuff isn't that demanding. I'll let the people who've been checking the market do the mobo/CPU/RAM recommendations, but I'd have thought something like a 3600X, 550 based motherboard and 16gb 3200 RAM would be more than enough.

That's great, no new PSU then, I was hopeful as this psu has been great so far.

I was thinking the newest chipset for forward compatibility, even through AMD have been quite good on that with their Cpus.

It's so hard to find something I know I'll be happy with, without saying "Oh I wished I'd have spent an extra.... and got that" lol

A Ryzen 5 3600 or Ryzen 7 3700X would be the CPUs I would look at,although Zen3 is coming later in the year. MSI seem to have very solid B550 motherboards, but do you want mATX or ATX and is onboard Wifi required?? Are you going to overclock the CPU? WRT,to the RAM I would get this:
    https://uk.crucial.com/memory/ddr4/bl2k8g36c16u4w

3600MHZ is the sweetspot for Zen2 CPUs,and that kit uses Micron E-die.

I was thinking the 3700x.... then I wouldn't bother overclocking, but the option would be nice.....

No wifi needed..... ATX... but mATX if needs be.

That Ram looks a good deal!

The MSI B550-A PRO is around £140,looks solid and has 6 SATA ports. The MSI B550M PRO-VDH WIFI is mATX,costs £110,has Wifi, and 4 SATA ports. Both should be able to handle a Ryzen 7 3700X fine IMHO.

    Thanks CAT!

So I'm leaning towards the MSI B550-A Pro, the 3700x. 16gb crucial ballistix ddr4

Now to find some prices I guess, anywhere you guy recommend?

I was thinking about getting this Ram:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Patriot-Mem...s&sr=1-18&th=1

Speed and timings look quite good for the price

Edit: I just noticed they are base timings not XMP

So, bit of a change of plan.... I can get a 2700x £115 cheaper, with the next cpus coming out soon I could just buy that, then sell my 3770k + board + ram, and the 2700x and buy a Zen 3 when they come out?, that way I can get better ram now too...

    Re: Motherboard +Cpu +Ram Cooler?

Well,if its for gaming a Ryzen 5 3600 should be quicker than a Ryzen 7 2700X and cheaper too:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_R5YxqzEsJs

You can get it for just under £160:
    https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/amd...g-code-3528219

CCL Computers and Amazon sell it for a few quid more too. WRT to the RAM,I chose that set because Crucial says it uses E-die chips. I am not sure what the Patriot kit uses, although Patriot does make some decent kits AFAIK.

    Re: Motherboard +Cpu +Ram Cooler?

Similar to my setup, I had a 3770 and ended up with a Ryzen 1600AF, 32Gb RAM (was on a decent discount so would have been rude not too) and a B450M Steel Legend board.

1600AF because it was cheap and got me into the Ryzen setup, B450M because people were preuming that the B450M would support Zen 3 at that point before all the "we wont, we will, board manufacurers might not, might, who knows" kerfuffle, we still dont really know, plan being I can upgrade when new stuff comes out, either by buying a new, or a decent used CPU..

This was all earlier in the year though, if I had to do it now, I think I'd wait, the used market will no doubt be rather nice between the end of September and end of January, if you can wait that long...

The 2700X won't be compatible with a B550 motherboard, so you would want to spend a bit of that saving on an X570 motherboard to guarantee Zen 3 support, and all that PCIe4 is a nice bonus.

But another vote for the 3600 rather than 2700X if you are gaming. 3300X would be a nice gaming stopgap, which is why they seem to be out of stock everywhere.

If you're interested in zen3 and your current system still runs then I'd advise waiting for it to launch - you'll save the faff and cost of getting something to tide you over then selling it, and even if you don't fancy the zen3 lineup zen2 chips should be a fair bit cheaper once the new shiny launches

    I second that!

Unless you like building and rebuilding your PC every few months and don't mind wasting time and money doing it. You could end up building your PC now and finding that you yearn for Zen 3 in a couple of months when that series releases.

    Re: Motherboard +Cpu +Ram Cooler?

Sooooooo, I took the advise and waited, bought lots of little bits for this PC (old one) WD Blue SN550 500GB High-Performance M.2 Pcie NVMe SSD (modded the bios on the Z77 to from boot it).

Water cooled my RX 580 Pulse with a NZXT Kracken G12 + H55 ((I already had it) it runs so cool, I can't hear it and overclocks great now!)) 6 new 120mm fans, A Cooler master 212 Black (Works amazing with the new fans!)

Front panels for USB 3.2 G2, USB-C, USB fast Charge Etc Etc

I can hear my fish tank over the pc on full load now!.

Now this is what brings me back to this post!

My Ryzen 5800x turns up tomorrow! £375(Brand New), free delivery!

Stuff I already have for this build as I bought a few bits over the last month or so:

    ROG Strix B550-E Gaming £198.99

32GB 3600mhz CL18 8GBx4 Klevv Bolt X (I've never heard of them, but they get good reviews and my friend has some and he didn't have a problem with XMP on Ryzen) £154

    Ryzen 5800x £375

I think it looks a solid build?, I will defiantly buy a new PSU soon tho... your thoughts?

So anyway fingers crossed the build goes well tomorrow!
