    First ever build, thoughts?

I’ve decided I’m going to build my first PC with a strict £500 or less budget, this is minus the graphics card as I have a GTX 1650 LP already from a old SFF PC which I’ll use until the GPU market settles.

    So far I’m thinking;
    Case: Cooler Master Q300L
    Mobo: ASRock B550M Pro4 Micro ATX AM4
    CPU: Ryzen 5 3600
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB DDR4-3600
Storage: Western Digital Blue 500 GB M.2-2280
PSU: Corsair TXM Gold 650 W 80+ Gold

This all comes under £500 delivered, obviously I’ll need to spend on a new graphics card down the line but that’s tomorrow’s problem.

    Thoughts?

    Re: First ever build, thoughts?

My home server runs on that motherboard with a 3600 and a WD Blue SN550 SSD and I have been very happy with the combo. But looking the Asrock up on Amazon, wow that's dropped in price. I paid £114 for mine last summer. I guess Asrock have shifted all their old B450 boards is the price has dropped down to the £87 level.

I recently bought a WD SSD and it was cheapest direct from WD. Not sure if you would have to pay import duty if you go over £125 as they come from the Netherlands, but on your budget that's probably not an issue as it got me a 1TB Black 750 for less than that

Cases are tricky in this price range. They all seem to have poor airflow, so probably just down to what you like the look of.

    Thank you!
It’s good to hear the Mobo is a good price! And I had a look on WD but the price at Amazon, £48, seems the cheapest for the £500, but thanks anyway! I never think to look directly at supplier websites, I always assume it’ll cost more, but I’ll start checking them out.

I’ve updated the post with prices of each product.

Looks good to me. Only thing that sprung to mind is the LP GPU - and apologies in advance if this is a redundant point - but presumably it's got a full size bracket on it and not the LP one?

Looks to be hitting the sweet spot for 1440p 144hz gaming in this current day and age....assuming you get a new GPU of course. What GPU are you thinking of getting?

Looks pretty well-optimised in terms of spending, no component costs that are out of whack with each other in terms of providing bang and reliability.

What are your intended uses? Just gaming? If so, CPU-intensive games or GPU-intensive?

I would be wary of Corsair RAM as its a much bigger lottery of module types than other kits,so if you are lucky you can get something like Samsung B-die,or if not you can end up with something not so good.

I have the 32GB versions of that. It tends to be Micron E-die or Hynix CJR.

BTW,which version of the WD Blue - the SATA one or the SN550 NVME version??

    Re: First ever build, thoughts?

If you can would put that bit extra in for 5600x since you're already going B550. Solid CPU for the price.

    Re: First ever build, thoughts?

Are you happy to get any used stuff or buy off eBay? I find a lot of good deals on eBay and FB I would look to see if people are selling off stuff they don't need and try and get a bit of a bargain...some stuff is worth buying new tho like SSD or PSU...but you can find them new in eBay for a deal sometimes
