It's been 12 years since my last build =o

Like my title says; it's been over 12 years and I think it's time to upgrade my computer.

    Current PC spec:
    CPU: Intel Core i7 2600K
    Corsair Hydro Series H70
    Mainboard: Maximus IV Extreme
    Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970
    Memory: 2x16GB
    Case: Corsair 800D
    1TB Western Digital Caviar Black
    120GB OCZ Vertex 2 3.5 SSD
    PSU: HX 850w Corsair

I'm thinking to upgrade the following parts:
    Intel Core i9 12900K
    Asus ROG Maximus Z690 Hero
    GeForce RTX 3080
    32GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 5200MHz
Corsair H100i ELITE CAPELLIX RGB - 240mm Liquid Cooler
    1TB Corsair Force M.2 PCIe 4.0

What are your thoughts? Will this fit within my current case and will the PSU do or should I upgrade that too?

The only thing I would change on that but because I like them would be a samsung 980pro 1tb M.2 otherwise you will love it. Get a RM850x corsair PSU and fitting in the case will be no problem but would check the length of the GFX card example the gigabytes average about 30 to 32 cm. If you want to upgrade the case and you enjoy corsair try the 680x and the 500D airflow or just change your fans for new ones

    All looks good.

A shame you're now met with sky high pricing!

850W should be more than enough

What do you want the machine to do?

Going by the absolute chonky specs you're looking to upgrade to, I'd suggest getting a much higher airflow case as the 12900k will be a toasty boy. I'd suggest a Fractal Torrent, nice and breezy in comparison to the 800D you have at the minute. I'd also suggest a Noctua NH-D15 over the Liquid cooler.

I would get a Core i7 12700K and you could probably do with a cheaper motherboard too IMHO. I would put the savings into a big 2TB SSD.

I would get an i5 12600k, pair with a great cooler, and stick to DDR4 - the performance gain of DDR5 over DDR4 is fairly small right now compared to the price increase.
