    Policy on Motherboard BIOS flashing

    Hiya,

After a lot more research on my previous topic; it seems there is a known issue with intel's speedstep/powersaving modes and the Asus P8P67-M motherboard, e.g.

    http://communities.intel.com/thread/6900

Could I take some advice on whether you've had any other queries, and whether you've any experience in flashing with the new 1002 BIOS that is available from Asus (I think mine is on a version 7xx).

Will doing this over-write any existing OC profiles that you pre-saved? Am I 'warranted' to do this?

    Thanks.

Re: Policy on Motherboard BIOS flashing

    Hi Jonathan,

Just incase anyone else has the same question about flashing a BIOS, It's always best to drop a post on here or contact us through systemsupport@scan.co.uk before you flash a BIOS on a 3XS system. Firstly because you'll lose your OC settings, and secondly we sometimes find we're having problems with certain versions.

You're fine to flash the BIOS to the latest version on your board. All builds are shipped with the latest BIOS and we've not heard of any problems with it yet

You will however lose all settings. I can e-mail you the original settings for your system tomorrow if you are OK to put these in yourself.

You can download the latest BIOS from the following link:

Hi Rob - if you could detail the changes from "standard" you make (via email if preferred) for the 4.7 OC that'd be really handy.

    Thanks

Thumbs up Re: Policy on Motherboard BIOS flashing

    Hi Jonathan,

I'll email you your systems settings for the 4.7OC first thing tomorrow.

There are a few settings you'll need to change to create the 'standard' profile aswell once it's been flashed, so I'll detail those also.

Lets hope this fixes the menu crashing problems for you!

Smile Re: Policy on Motherboard BIOS flashing

    Hi Jonathan,

I have E-mailed you the settings for your overclock this morning.

I've since spoken with my manager, who also had to dial down his overclock on his system in order to play that particular game!

So it does appear that the game doesn't like high overclocks! I believe a further game patch/update was released yesterday.

    Regards,
    Rob @ Scan

thanks for all the support Rob - much appreciated.
Managed to finish the game by turning off the speedstep feature; popped it back on now I've completed it!

Re: Policy on Motherboard BIOS flashing

    Hi jonathanswalton

I am having a similar issue with Battlefield Bad Company 2 as it doesnt seem to like my OC on my system, the game plays fine at stock speed but when the OC is on (bearing in mind that I have used the system at 4.4 Gig for most games over the past 2 years) it blue screens and reboots

I also had a few issues with the Witcher 2 as well but these were resolved by the patches that were released

Rob is on a well deserved holiday and I will pass your message to him when he gets back

    Regards

    Ben

Re: Policy on Motherboard BIOS flashing

Hi Ben - support via the forums has been excellent.

If I may... might be worth checking this out. I'm sure you guys are more than clued up on hardware technicals... so this is probably more for other people stumbling across the post

Seems power saving features are causing problems for many Asus motherboard owners!
