    Intel QuickSync

    Hi there,

I have been very pleased with my new 3XS system, however I have had one issue. I purchased the system with a P8Z68-V Pro motherboard so that I would be able to access Intel's QuickSync transcoding feature using Virtu - unfortunately I am having problems with it.

The test version of Windows 7 Home Premium that came pre-installed only had the discrete card enabled. I tried enabling Virtu in this installation (Multi-GPU mode enabled in the BIOS, installed the latest Intel HD Graphics drivers from Asus), but Windows informed me that there were insufficient hardware resources (Code 12 in Device Manager) and Virtu refused to install citing that there was only one GPU.

I have since installed the full version of Windows 7 Ultimate which is working extremely well. I have now been able to install my nVidia graphics card drivers, along with the Asus Intel HD Graphics drivers and Lucid Virtu. I have verified that graphics work in both d-Mode and i-Mode so the onboard graphics are definitely working. However when I try to use QuickSync in the trial versions of either ArcSoft Media Converter or Cyberlink MediaEspresso it stalls at 2% or 11% respectively when running the transcode. The same transcode completes successfully with QuickSync turned off. I have tried the transcode in both i-Mode and d-Mode with the same results.

The driver versions I am using are as follows:

    Motherboard chipset: 9.2.1030
    Intel HD Graphics: 15.10.2372
    nVidia graphics: 275.33
Lucid Virtu: 1.2.103 (on installing the version from Asus' web site it told me to update to this, but I have also tried it with the Asus' version and the same problem occurs)

    BIOS settings:

    Initiate Graphics Adapter: [PCIE/PCI]
    iGPU Memory: 64M
    Render Standby: Enabled
    iGPU Multi-Monitor Mode: Enabled

The Scan-supplied overclock to 4.7GHz is enabled.

Whilst it's not the most crucial functionality I am eager to get this working having paid extra for it over the P8P67 Pro!! Otherwise the system has been excellent .

    Re: Intel QuickSync

    Hi

I'm also using the P8Z68-V Pro (with MSI HD6870 Hawk) and I'm also having problems with Arcsoft Mediaconverter 7. In my case, I can't get it to recognise QuickSync at all. Using the latest drivers all round.

I'm curious - with Virtu enabled in d-mode, does the Hardware Acceleration drop down box appear under the 'settings' button, with QuickSync as an option? The only way I can get the box to appear is to turn Virtu off, but then the only options available are 'None' and 'AMD Hardware Acceleration'.

    Re: Intel QuickSync

I have tried this again with Lucid Virtu 1.2.106, nVidia Forceware 280.26 and Intel HD Graphics drivers 15.1.2509 and the issue is still unresolved. The only update I haven't tried is to the latest version of the motherboard BIOS (currently 0501) and I don't intend to as I am aware this will void the warranty if I do so without you advising me to.

I was told that the R&D department would look into this some time ago but I haven't heard anything since. Has there been any progress with this issue?

Regarding the previous poster, I did have the issue you describe when I let Windows 7 install the latest Intel HD Graphics drivers that are available on Windows Update. The issue remained even after updating to the latest driver's from Intel's site. I later reinstalled the OS for unrelated reasons, and this time I ensured Windows Update didn't install the HD Graphics driver but installed the version from Intel straight away at which point QuickSync did appear (but it still didn't work properly).

    Re: Intel QuickSync

Lucid Virtu seems to be very sensitive to the Intel iGPU driver version used. The version supplied by Asus didn't work so eventually I downloaded v8.15.10.2361 from Intel which sorted everything out.

    I'm using Lucid Virtu v1.2.105.
