    CPU fan dying

    Hi,

My CPU fan appears to be dying, at first intermittently and now every time I boot up, I get the bios warning about low fan speed. It eventually spins up above the warning speed but it is starting slower and taking longer to spin up each time, and I'm afraid to leave my system unattended because it is inevitably going to fail totally, can you help?

    Cheers

    Stuart

    Hi

Can you check the bios profile is loaded as after market coolers turn slower and if the bios has reset the bios warns you but it doesnt mean its a fault

    Whats the CPU idle temperature?

Please email your Build number to systemsupport@scan.co.uk

    Regards

    Re: CPU fan dying

    Hi Ben,

    Thanks for the quick reply.

CPU is idling at 40. The first time I got the error message the BIOS was set to power save, so I stuck it to normal and it brought the speed up a bit, but still took a good few minutes to get up to speed, which I thought strange. I have now set to ASUS Optimal and will see how it goes from next cold boot, which should it be set to?

The case is clean inside btw.

I don't actually know my build number as I bought my 3XS ready made at the Gadget Show last year.

    Cheers

    Stuart

    Re: CPU fan dying

Ok, just discovered it was in profile 1 in Asus OC rather than profile 2 for the overclocked settings, that seems to have speeded the fans up a bit.

Not had any more warnings since switched back to OC profile, so I guess it was ok running at 500 odd rpm on the standard profile as you suspected was the case in your first reply, goodness knows how the bois profile changed itself though.

I have double checked and I definitely didn't get a build sheet, I will email for it.

    Thanks for your help.
