Exclamation Is any of this normal?

Hello, I received my SR-2 system on Monday.

When I got home and unboxed/un-bubbleWrapped/set up the system, it wouldn't boot at all. It was like if there was no power going through it.

I opened it up, and saw that one of the LEDs on the motherboard (marked LED 4) was blinking blue. So clearly power was running enough for it to at least get that. I tried over and over making sure that the power cord was in fact plugged in all the way, yet still got the LED 4 blinking blue and no power.

I retraced my steps, and remembered that while unboxing, for safety, I unplugged six USB cables that were coming out of the inside of the computer tower and into the USB ports in the back. Which I did plug back in while setting up).
The USB cables were labeled as CN1, CN2, CN3, and CN4. The remaining two were unlabeled, but I was able to trace them back to the Memory Card Reader.

For some reason, when I powered the computer without those USB cables plugged in, the LED 4 stopped blinking Blue and became a solid Blue. After that, I was able to boot without a problem, and the LED 4 stopped blinking blue and just became a solid lit blue.

I shut down and tried booting with the USB cables plugged in. The results were: the sytem had power and would try to boot, but never did.

I then tried with only 2 out of the 6 USB cables pluggged in, and the computer managed to successfully boot to Windows.

After that I tried all 6 again, and got the same problem of not booting to Windows.
After that, I tried 4 out of the 6, and the computer had no problem booting to Windows.

The next day I decided to try with all of the cables plugged in, and it has been working since.

What was up with that? Any idea why it did that?

Also, I've noticed that it takes anywhere from 20-30 seconds for booting progress to show any text or sign of actual stuff happening/booting.

As the title of my post says, is any of this normal?

    Thank you for your time,
    Fred.

    Hi FredHuergo

This is completely normal on those boards. It always takes a while to boot due to the amount of memory it has to cycle through during initialization.

The USB issue is a weird one

If you email your Build and Invoice number to systemsupport@scan.co.uk I will look at the spec of the system

    Regards

    Ben

I know this is not really a place for me to post, and you probs dont want my input. But that really is not normal. Never ever have a i seen a POST take longer because there is more RAM. 30 seconds its totally unacceptable IMO. I would request an RMA as soon as i saw that if it were my PC.

Did you read the post you quoted?

He said its normal with that particular board. Unless you have direct experience with the system and the amount of RAM in use then you cant really say its not normal

But an SR-2 isn't exactly a normal motherboard.

Re: Is any of this normal?

    Hi Guys

The SR2 does indeed take a long time to display and post this is normal, we have tested this on a few systems here and they are all the same, once in windows the systems absolutely fly

I have been liasing directly with the customer and he is happy that the system is all working

    Regards

    Ben
