    System isn't booting

Tried turning my 3XS system on this evening and it wouldn't start, i.e. press the power button and didn't even try to POST.

The motherboard has power because the LEDs light up on there. I tried starting it using the built on power/reset buttons on there but no luck, tried reseating RAM but hasn't seemed to be successful.

My only observation is that the fans spin up for literally a split second first time I try powering on. Then afterwards nothing at all without taking out power cable and leaving it to drain the power.

    Any ideas?

    Re: System isn't booting

Sounds like there's a short somewhere, and the PSU instantly goes into it's protection mode.
That's at least the most common cause for the "split-second fan twitch" problem.

Check for shorts against the case (loose/unused wires etc.). If you can't find anything, unplug the PCIe power plug(s) to the GPU and try to power it up. Try the same with the 12V CPU power plug unplugged from the mainboard.

If it starts up with the GPU power unplugged, the graphics card is suspect. If it powers up with the 12V CPU power unplugged, the mainboard is suspect.

It obviously won't work properly with either of those unplugged, but it helps to pinpoint the component causing this.

    Hi Bleak,

It sounds like the power supply may have failed.

I'm not sure if we have already spoken with you regarding this problem today?

If not, could you please mail your build and invoice numbers along with your hexus username to systemsupport@scan.co.uk.

    Regards,
    Rob

    Re: System isn't booting

    Hi Rob

Yes I just finished trying a PSU from an old PC of mine and it's booted up fine. I didn't speak with you earlier regarding this so will email the details.

    Thanks
