    Memory Upgrade Recommendation

    Hi there,
I bought a 3XS system from you some time ago that came with 6GB RAM and while it's still going great I'd like to increase the capacity

Looking at the motherboard there are 3 additional slots - but the CPU fan is going to obstruct putting similar modules into the spare slots.

So please could you recommend a 12GB upgrade route that will work for me?

    Cheers,
    Neil

    Re: Memory Upgrade Recommendation

How difficult is it to look and see what RAM you have fitted and just get three more ?

Sys Info might tell you what you have, or any one of several diagnostics packages... I use Aida64 and it even tells me the serial numbers of the chips I have in mnine.
    Cheers, David

Because as I said in my first post one of the slots is obstructed by the CPU fan so I'm not going to be able to fit an additional 3 modules in.

Also as the system is overclocked I'd like some guidance on selecting modules to replace the 3 that are in there with ones of higher capacity that are going to be compatible.

    Hi Neil

I have emailed you the info requested, also you can move the CPU fan to the other side and have it pulling air through if you need access to all slots

    Regards

    Ben

Thanks Ben - hopefully sorted once the order arrives

I'm not sure I can move the CPU fan as I think it's a bit of a monster with two fans either side... I'll have another look when I crack the case open to fit the memory

    Re: Memory Upgrade Recommendation

Well no joy with the new memory as the system seems to be unstable with it installed. I've dropped you an email and opened case OLQ778682 asking for recommendations regarding the BIOS settings but haven't had a reply yet?

    Re: Memory Upgrade Recommendation

    Hi Neil,

Not sure if you have had contact via out query system.

When you say unstable, do you mean the system bluescreens? If it is you could attatch the contents of your C:\Windows\Minidump folder to an email along with your Hexus username, Build no. and invoice no to systemsupport@scan.co.uk . We can analyse them and try to find the cause of the problem.

In the meantime, you could also run Memtest for 10 passes from www.memtest.org to make sure the new memory is trouble free.

    Regards,

    Rob
