Re: Can't transfer large files to USB devices (updated)

    Thanks.

I haven't contacted them direct yet as I noticed people from Scan here post on the forums so I didn't want to duplicate in case it got confusing, but maybe I will have to. I know it is very unlikely to be their fault, but as they have so much equipment around I am sure they can do a test if nothing else with similar equipment.

It shouldn't drop out like that.

Re: Can't transfer large files to USB devices (updated)

The ports on my system are fed directly from the headers on the motherboard.

I recemtly transferred 10GB to a 64GB USB stick with no issue.

Re: Can't transfer large files to USB devices (updated)

Yep, I know it should work and shouldn't drop out, but I am wondering if it is a hardware fault or driver, if driver then I guess probably not down to Scan, but if hardware then it is. So if another person with the same motherboard has it working, then it will be confusing. Do you have the same motherboard ? If so, might be good to have a screengrab of your devices if that is okay I know the ports can run at full speed as I had them working for a few minutes before I tested by doing a re-boot, which it then stopped working again, but it makes no logical sense.

Re: Can't transfer large files to USB devices (updated)

I'm running a Core i5 on a Gigabyte H61 board so not as complex as your setup.

What I'll show in the screengrabs is the USB root hub info screens that show the power draw.

If you go into Device Manager and look under USB you should find the entry for the root hub, double clicking on this and then clicking Power will show you the draw of connected devices in milliAmps

Each port should provide 500 mA.

Re: Can't transfer large files to USB devices (updated)

Thanks, they all show up as 500ma and say they are self powered. It says bandwidth used 20%.

Any idea what a base system device is ? That is the only item showing up as having no driver in the device manager, I am not sure what it is for.

Re: Can't transfer large files to USB devices (updated)

    Hi

My apologies, ended up still at work at 9 p.m. last night trying to help a colleague sort out a problem, we fixed it in the end I'm pleased to say.

As for your base system device it depends on the board and without the device inf files and drivers it appears Windows doesn't know what it is either.

Best advice I can give is to locate your motherboard DVD and let it install everything and then see whether that warning disappears along with your problem hopefully though if its survived several Windows reinstalls I'm doubtful its software related to be honest

Thinking more about your problem I really do think it might be power supply related.

Yeah, that's make sense, but i think it would be the best thing to do that we must consider another error will happen. Like the long path file.
I am using Long Path Tool as a third party apps, to helped me out this problem.

    hope this will help.
