Booting issue - worried that there is an issue

    Hello,

Since August, my Scan PC has worked like a dream.

This evening, when switching it on, instead of going into Windows, the following message appeared on the screen under the Intel Boot agent:

"PXE-E53 no boot file name received"
"Reboot and select the proper boot device"

I rebooted - still the same.

I put the windows 7 disk in and it loads to the windows installation screen - I panicked again. I rebooted and removed the windows disk.

This time, I rebooted again and pressed DEL at start up, went into the bios and selected the hard disk as the first priority boot device.

It then booted fine into Windows.

I just wanted to ask, is this anything to worry about? - is something failing?
Did it forget that the hard disk should be booted from first?

Many thanks for any support and comments.

    Hi cactusjack22

It sounds like the bios may have reset have you loaded the profile from the bios and made sure you dont have any external drives in its trying to boot from?

Drop us an email with your invoice/Build number to systemsupport@scan.co.uk and we will check the spec and see if there is anything else

    Regards

    Ben

That sounds like it's trying to PXE network boot. You haven't got anything leaning on the keyboard around the F10-12 keys have you?

Thanks Demonwar, my reading about this suggests a PXE network boot - on screen it was looking for a client MAC Address before ending with "PXE-E53 no boot file name received".
I have checked the keyboard, nothing leaning on the f10-12 keys.

Ben, thanks for the reply. There were no external drives present. I will hold off on emailing system support for now - since all seems ok. If it happens again, I will be in touch.
