    Need to reinstall windows

    Hi there,

It looks like i may have a virus or something on my 3XS system as the gfx card is basically running at 898% load even when idle which is causing a lot of issues.

I thought i'd do a clean reinstall to make sure it gets rid of anything but doesnt seem to be as simple as when ive done it on other computers.

When i try to reinstall from the disc it seems to say im not allowed to install on any of the specific partitions that are available.

Any indication as to how i go about this?

    Thanks

What software are you using to monitor gfx load? 898% seems more like a software/driver error than a virus if there aren't any other problems. Have you updated drivers or been overclocking recently?

    Re: Need to reinstall windows

lol sorry my mistake. Its 98% load.

Yesterday when i done some troubleshooting i put in new drivers which fixed it for the night but had the same issue this morning.

Looking through google theres mention of some bitcoin virus that can do this but no anti virus seems to pick it up.

Reading through one thread i came across a program to monitor whats using the gpu power and there was something called conhost and when i closed it down about an hour ago its fixed it again. Just hope it stays that way this time. So maybe no need for a reinstall.

    Re: Need to reinstall windows

conhost runs when a command line window is open, and is indicative that something else might be running using the command prompt. It isn't a virus itself, but killing it will kill everything its hosting.

    Re: Need to reinstall windows

Ok so the computer was back to normal for the whole day until i done a restart and then it was the exact same again with the gpu at 98% load.

As before, i use process explorer, look at whats running on the gpu and then kill the conhost and straight away everythings back to normal.

So the question is, how do i get to the root of the problem to stop this happening everytime i start the computer and find out more information about it?

One of the chaps here had a bitcoin trojan on his PC and he used unhackme to remove it along with a bit of registry digging as well.
