    Help

Afternoon all , hope Ur all well . I have a couple of problems with my 3xs System that i cant figure out . If anyone could help me i would be very grateful . I am really unwell due to my illness ,( Liver Disease ) some of the side effects are, flu like symptoms ,Vomiting ,jaundice ,aching joints ,swelling ,very severe pain in my Liver & abdomen and my head gets very clouded / confused and i loose concentration very quickly ! Normally i wouldn't bother you all guys with these silly ( Noob )issues ( i hate that word - noob ) id resolve them myself. but as I've tried to explain I'm not like i used to be and need help figuring even the most basic things Anyway enough of all that ! here are the issues I'm having #1, I have tried to connect my Dell 30" 3008WFP monitor to my Rig ( 2x 295GTX ) via an HDMI lead , but nothing happens when there connected ( I always use the top GFX ) there's no picture at all . So I've tried switching to HDMI manually using the monitors on screen menu , but that doesn't work either ? can anyone help ? #2, I wanted to watch a Blu-Ray movie on my PC but as i pushed the eject button on the " LG GGC-H20L Blu-Ray " player nothing happened ! so i went into Device manager to see if the Blu-Ray drive was listed , it isn't ? whats happened , when i received the system it was working fine, now its not . OH, I recently did a full system restore using "Acronis true image home 2009" could this of effected the Blu-ray drive ? If ANYONE could help it would be truly appreciated . Many many thanks Alex aka Clocker 1

    Re: Help

Hi Alex, sorry to read of your problems. I have no experience of HDMI connections so can't offer any advice on that one but I was just thinking about the BluRay player - it seems odd that the tray didn't work. In my experience a CD/DVD player tray will usually open via the button even if for some reason Windows doesn't "see" the drive. I'm wondering if you should just check that the power lead to the drive is seated properly first, inside the case (and check the both ends of the SATA data cable connector too, while you're in there). If the lead is not making proper contact and therefore the drive is not powered then that's probably the explanation for the non-functioning button and lack of drive detection in Windows.

You could also have a nose around in the BIOS on boot up, perhaps, to see if the BluRay player is showing up there.

That's all I can think of for now. Let us know what you find.

    Re: Help

    1. I am not too sure what is the maximum output resolution of HDMI, so it could be that your PC is trying to chuck out 2560x1600 and the HDMI cable doesn't like it or the selected output (in this case HDMI) hasn't been properly selected.

    2. When you boot your PC up the screen will show you connected drives; you should see it as a connected SATA device. More than likely the SATA Power cable has popped out...I find the SATA power and data cables to be woefully flmisy compared with the old 4 pin molex and IDE cables (which you man handle in and out of devices).

    Re: Help

    Hi Clocker1

The SATA cable may well have popped off as suggested or possibly failed, you should have some spares in the motherboard box as we send out all unused cables and connections with our 3xs systems for customers to add drives if they want to upgrade...

Have you tried using a DVI or Dsub cable to see if it is an issue with the HDMI?
If you get any display at all at boot up then it is more than likely a resolution issue, as the system reboots press F8 and goto VGA mode or Safe Mode see if you get a display in either of these modes
If you manage to get into windows goto the control panel and uninstall the Nvidia drivers and then reboot the system, see if the system gets into windows without the display drivers installed.

If you can get into windows try and reinstall the latest Nvidia drivers and see if the issue is resolved after a reboot....

If you cant get any display at all with HDMI then do the above with DVI or Dsub connected...

Let us know if you need any more help

    Regards

    Ben

    Re: Help

Thank You to all of you for your replies & suggestions , i am truly grateful I have managed to fix the HDMI issue . It was the HDMI lead , i replaced it this morning and hey presto ! we got picture ! As for the Blue-ray i checked the bios yesterday and it wasn't listed , so i did as you suggested and checked the leads Data/Sata and they are both connected and seated fine . So tomorrow i will try and replace them as you suggested , I cant today as I'm too unwell and have to be at the hospital again shortly to see my gastroenterology specialist to discuss other treatment options & transplant options / dates ( I'm very nervous ) Anyhow I will let you know if the problem with the Blu-ray player has been resolved as soon as . Oh .. Ben@Scan while your here sir , I have another question/problem ( i know , i know ANOTHER problem ! lol ) i did a full system restore using "Acronis true image 2009" 2 days ago due to some other software issues ( Damn Eset ) and i went back into Acronis to explore really ! i didn't play about with any settings etc.. i was just familiarizing myself with the software and functions . I noticed that the backup i used the other day IE - " My Backup" that Scan made b4 dispatch was no longer in the Secure zone section it isn't any where ? what have i done NOW !

    Re: Help

    Hi Clocker1

The Acronis secure zone image will have been saved after QC, have you renamed or added any drives that could have confused Acronis? You can validate the backup archive using the tools in Acronis, unfortunately I am not in work yet so I cant tell you excactly where to look (my car is in the garage) Hopefully all going well I should be in later....

    Regards

    Re: Help

Hi Ben , Sorry to here Ur having car trouble m8 . Thanks for replying as I know how busy you must be . I haven't added any drives or messed around with any settings/configs and I've not installed anything that could of confused Acronis . I'll have a look around again an see if I can find it anywhere . Oh yes , I'm about to have a go at replacing the leads to try and fix the Blu-ray player but I'm a bit apprehensive about doing it , as all the cables are very tightly tied together ( with cable ties etc. .) & are very well placed so I am very wary of trying to cut the ties , find right lead , replace it , and then tie them all back together an put them back as they all were ! if i cant do this myself what can i do ?

    Re: Help

    Hi Clocker 1

If you cant get the Bluray drive to detect and its not showing in the bios then we can arrange an onsite engineer to change it for you, let us know if its not showing in the bios and we will arrange this on your behalf

If you cant Vlidate the Acronis image as well then it may have got corrupted once your system is sorted with a working Bluray drive we can advise you through creating a new image in the secure zone or to a file

    Re: Help

Wow ! Thanks Ben the Blu Ray is definitely not showing in the bios , I've just triple checked it again to make sure . I've also had a good look through Acronis and the back up is no where to be found . It would be great if it is possible to have someone come onsite . I'm sorry I've not been able to fix these issues myself to save someone coming out . Thank you so much sir, your a real life saver
    Many Many Thanks Alex

    Re: Help

Afternoon Ben . I have had a very good day so far today , thanks to you Guy ! I received a call @ about 11:30am this morning from one of your tech crew to arrange to come and fix the Blu-ray Drive ! he asked if he could come right then ! . of course i very happily agreed ! He said he would be with me at about 1pm , he then arrived promptly at 1:10pm ! he was rewarded with a well deserved cup of tea and the offer of a cream cake ( which he declined ) ! Anyway he then very quickly replaced the drive and . . . Hey presto ! its all working great ! So i am writing to let you know that the issue is fixed , and how impressed i am with the quickness of your response , analysis , and repair you have been incredible Thank you so much Ben , Phil and other Scan people , yet again you have gone out of your way to help .
Thanks for everything Ben , Clocker 1
