Last time I was buying PC related stuff I tended to use a mix of
http://froogle.co.uk/ and google with sites like ******* , ****** , etc as well as checking Scan and other sites (of course when you take into account the free postage can beat competitors)
Though maybe worth buying all from Scan regardless if it's less hassle on refunding faulty parts? I haven't bought PC components from them before yet, though I had a faulty monitor refunded a while ago it took over a month for them to actually send the money back (3008wfp,
£976.35) having to phone them quite a few times to chase it up, with more money taken from my account than I actually paid for at first then only a 10%ish refund! (I guess some accounting error? Don't think I was ever told why I had to go through this - for one item):
11Dec08 - SCAN COMPUTERS INT - Paid out £1137.32 (why? my invoice was for £849 before vat, after £976.35)
(12Dec08 - sent it back with RMA due to faulty screen)
16Dec08 - SCAN COMPUTERS INT - Paid In £160.97
(17Dec08 "RMA Status Notification - Completed" email - "We can confirm your returned goods have now been fully processed and replacements issued / refund processed.")
Of course this was not true - Much phoning and being put on hold on premium rate 0870 numbers (now
replaced by 0871 as per my letter to Scan on the subject) with a non-advertised normal number for customer support that never worked and on the main line a receptionist bluntly refusing to put through to anyone useful (warehouse or sales only I recall) until
finally
14
Jan09 - SCAN COMPUTERS INT - Paid in £976.35 (correct original amount of monitor)
- I just hope things have changed since then, I know at least the number issue is being "looked into" (quote from on forum) - thank god the government did something right setting up a watchdog and code of practice for people that want to use premium rate numbers for customer support. I'm pretty sure what they did then would be illegal now due to the code of practice (in the letter thread I mentioned) requiring a genuine geographical customer support number to be available.
