Thought I would post an update and first impressions of my new Scan 3XS P55 OC Custom series, which arrived yesterday. First of all, the case is huge! I had forgotten how big a full tower case really is! Luckily it still fits under my desk, just
Booting up for the first time, I got the "Windows 7 did not shut down properly" message. I tried the "start up normally option" but it hung on the animated startup logo. Rebooted, this time I went for the "attempt to repair" option. It prompted me to restore to a previous point, but I declined thinking I didn't want to risk not having drivers which you had installed recently. After several minutes it finished repairing and booted up ok.
Going into Windows 7, everything looked very pretty compared to XP, and I noticed my test results on the desktop (thank you). However I soon also noticed I had no sound card or wireless card detected, even though I could see you had installed the drivers. A quick call to Scan 3XS support, and they told me to try to re-seat the wireless & sound cards, as this can often be the cause of the Windows 7 boot problem I described too. I was cynical, thinking they looked ok when I unpacked, and it was more likely a Windows 7 driver issue, but I hung up and gave that a try. Wireless was fine, but the sound card made a noticeable click as I pushed it in. Possibly due to the cable routed between it and the mobo?
Anyway, tada, success! Windows booted with both now detected and working happily. Thought I would give detailed description for anyone else with similar issues.
Installed Batman Arkham Asylum first, which looks great, maxed out, super smooth. In general everything seems to load incredibly fast! So very happy there.
Other observations are the CPU fan is spinning quite high on idle, due to the overclock I guess. It's not that loud, but a noticeable hum if you're just browsing the net. Temperatures while idling are between 36-39 deg, which seems good for that overclock? Probably because the fan is spinning that high, that and the Optimus Prime heat sink.
I saw an Asus one, but is there a guide for the MSI BIOS, for things like reloading the BIOS, and switching to/from non-OC profile?
