    PowerDAW - and FireWire

I've been doing a bit more homework.

The on-board FireWire provides 1 FW400 port on the back panel and 2 more FW400 ports via an optional (2-port) bracket:
-- Is this FW interface suitable for connecting an audio interface? Something tells me - no.
-- I understand from this forum I could request a custom build to install and configure the optional 2-port bracket. Is that correct?

    -----
Also the PowerDAW config includes a FireWire card by defualt.
    -- The card is "Lycom PE-107 PCI-E 2 Port FireWire 800 (1394b) and 1 Port Firewire 400 (1394a) Card"
-- is this installed on the PCIeX1_1 motherboard slot (the short one)?
-- can the FW800 ports be used for FW400 devices - backup disk drives, for example (with a suitable convertor cable)? - I think that that is what "Two Fully Backward Compatible, Bilingual P1394b 9-Pin Ports " means on the Scan product page,
-- if the Lycom card is fitted is the on-board FW disabled or can they both be used?

    PowerDAW - FireWire and PreSonus

The specified Fire Wire card for the 3XS PowerDAW is this one:
    Lycom PE-107 PCI-E 2 Port FireWire 800 (1394b) and 1 Port Firewire 400 (1394a)
    http://www.scan.co.uk/product.aspx?ProductID=27377

Does anyone have experience of its use with PreSonus FireStudio?

    http://<<remove me>>www.presonus.com/products/Detail.aspx?ProductId=5

    APPROVED FIREWIRE CHIPSETS
PreSonus interfaces will work with a wide range of firewire cards and configurations. Due to the
plethora of firewire chipsets currently on the market, it is not possible to thoroughly test each one for
compatibility. Most users will not need to alter their current PC configuration to use their PreSonus
interface. The following firewire chipsets, however, have been tested and approved for use with all
    PreSonus interfaces:
    • TI TSB43AB23
    • Agere/LSI FW323-06
    • TI TSB43AB23
    • VIA VT6308
    • VIA VT6306 <<snipped>>

Re: PowerDAW - FireWire and PreSonus

Both the Lycom firewire card and the PowerDaw's Gigabyte UD5 motherboard are TI chiped (Texas Instrument) so should work fine with the Presonus range, including the fire studio. I used to own a Presonus fire box and never had an issue with it.

Re: PowerDAW - FireWire and PreSonus

    Hi,

I merged both the threads to this one, to make it easier.

The UD 5 has one of those recomended chips on board.

    • TI TSB43AB23

I've had the Personus running on one here in the past without any issues so you should be fine with it.

Aye, you can ask them to set up the machine however you'd like it, so if you feel you need the extra firewire then please do specify that you'd like them fitting at build.

I've just disabled that as default. It was on there as such due to the previous board that was on the spec requiring it. I failed to deselect it through it appears when i updated the spec to the UD5.

    To answer the questions.

It will go in the X1 slot.
The slots can be used with slower devices with the appropeate cables.
If fitted they can both be used without issue.

Got it, thank you. Things are becoming much clearer.
