    Sata 6Gb/s

I see you have updated the 3xs video section (eg 3XS - X58 Slipstream), which is exciting.

I looked at Wiki about the Sata 6Gb/s, and it says that no current disks come even close to saturating Sata 1.5 Gb/s, but that it does improve speeds when accessing the disk's memory cache. Your spec defaults to "*Sata 6Gb/s Hard Drive Not Required*" with an option for "2TB Seagate AS Barracuda XT, SATA III 6Gb/s, 7200rpm, 64MB Cache". Would it make even more sense to stick some Solid State Drives into these ports, or is that not an option?

The spec also defaults to no SAS drive, but these are faster than the regular SATA drives, right? OTOH the SAS drives only go up to 1TB.

    Re: Sata 6Gb/s

    Hi Erich,

The main reason to implement a board such as the Asus P6X58D Premium is so that prospective customers have the opportunity should they desire to utilise the new 6GB/s controllers.

As of yet, as you mentioned there is not a huge increase in performance across the board but with Marvells up and coming SSD controller (which may well become limited by nand flash memory) the boundarys of the 3GB/s sata controller shoulds be exceeded quite easily

I'd hope that if i was in the market for purchasing a new HD NLE Workstation that I'd have the possiblity to upgrade my storage needs further down the line. Even if the technology is in its infancy atm.

    Regarding the SAS options,
We want to have the option to cover both bases as some customers are willing to pay a higher premium for SAS drives considering their workstation is their livelihood and the extra security of an "Enterprise" drive is worth paying the extra. In some cases its not necessarliy speed benfits as some of the high end Sata drives are up there with a good SAS drive.

Hope I've managed to shed a little light on the subject. Think I better hit the sack now work in the morning
