    Bios problems

    Hi Scan,
Looking for some help, i'm having some problems in getting into the bios on my sons 3XS Edge - AMD FX 4100 Black bundle we got delivered today , the problem is that i can't.
    Bundle included:
    ASUS M5A99X EVO
    AMD FX4100 black edition
    MSI 6870 OC
    Corsair DDR3 vengeance LP 4Gb
    Corsiar builders series 600w psu.
I installed it all fine, booted up and installed windows 7 pro, the only problem i had was i'm still waiting on my optical drive so had to download all the latest chipset drivers, bios etc from asus site instead of using the cd that came with the board.
Every time i try getting into the bios the system just restarts, tried pressing delete a few times to catch it, held it in but nothing, just restarts every time.
When the post screen pops up it tells me that i have one keyboard attached and two mice?? sometimes it's tells me it didn't detect a keyboard, but found one mouse.
Any ideas guys? Could it be that i'm using a usb keyboard?
as always any help would be greatly appreciated as other than this problem you guys did an amazing job in getting the rig out to me in time for my sons birthday, i just want it to work perfectly for him.
    thanks
    david

    Re: Bios problems

Try pressing delete immediately after pressing the power button (when you get the BIOS logo on the screen)

If that does not work try F2 instead.

    Re: Bios problems

    Thank you, really appreciate it.
Can't help thinking it's the keyboard, i'm getting USB malfunction errors every now and again.
Would be great if scan could confirm that they got in to the bios fine on testing.

    Re: Bios problems

Just checked the manual for your board and it does say press Delete to access the BIOS but you need to do this immediately after turning the system on.

Are you getting errors that the keyboard was not found etc?

Hate to say it mate but sounds like a defective board to me.

I really hope not, yeah i sometimes get an error "no keyboard detected" or the other one "keyboard detected and 2 mice" going to try another keyboard and go from there i think, hopefully it'll be the keyboard, thanks for the help though pctech.
If the builders at scan could just confirm that they went into the bios while testing that would help.

    Regards.

David, there seems to be a bit of a time lag in response from Scan on here, my advice would be to ring tech support tomorrow.

    Re: Bios problems

I have the same problem... I'm using wireless usb keyboard.

Delete to get into the bios doesn't work.

I managed to get around it by plugging in an old PS/2 keyboard I had... hitting delete at start up gets me in.

    Re: Bios problems

That's mighty odd indeed, had an Asus mobo in my old machine (built by a different company) with a USB keyboard and delete worked ok.

    Re: Bios problems

    Update,
Tried with a ps/2 keyboard and different usb keyboard, still no luck.
Its seem when ever i press delete, the system hangs on the post screen, noticed the "boot device LED" comes on and stays on if i hit delete, but if i leave the system and don't press anything, the led comes and stays on for the post screen and knocks off as soon as the post screen does, so frustrating as it boots up fine etc if i don't press anything.
I googled for some info earlier and i came across a few worrying posts mentioning that the sata controllers can be faulty on these boards and its a common issue.
Not sure what i can try anymore, looks like i'm going to have to rma it. can anyone explain the process as i've not done it before.
    Thanks
    david

    Re: Bios problems

Phone technical support as they have to start the process, they issue the RMA and tell you how to return the board, they may even arrange a courier pickup.

Thanks again pctech, great help, will ring first thing. do you think it's the motherboard then? i mean i've tried alot of different things to hopefully get at the bios but nothings worked, updated all the latest drivers last night and now the rig won't even boot to windows, just get stuck at post screen "saying please f2 to enter bios recovery, only problem is that as soon as i do, the system just hangs.

    Re: Bios problems

    Would seem to be.

As there's no overclocking on the CPU its possible they've had no need to go into the BIOS.

If the mobo box was sealed it may not have been opened by them, if it's sealed with Scan tape its had a visual inspection at least.
