Talking What Spec for a Flight Sim?

    Hi,
I'm interested in purchasing a PC to run X-Plane 10 at the highest setting you can have whilst retaing a good FPS let's say 35+ FPS even at the most demanding area like in New York City or London.

I'm keen to purchase a complete PC or the individual components over a period of time to build the perfect model.

Please can you offer any advice. I'd also like to run it with 3 monitors too so I get a very good perspective when flying.

    Cheers

    Lee

Flight simulator PC's need a lot of power. You would need to sli 670's or 680's for a smooth multi monitor set up. A quadcore based processor as well.

    Hi Bluebotle,

I've never used X-10 or X-9 or any flight sims really so I'm not really able to give much advice. I will however point you to the hardware forum on the X-plane.org website. There are loads of people discussing setups there and they should be able to give you accurate system specs.

    http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?showforum=14

From my very brief reading it looks as though a 670/680 is a good choice as X-10 appears to be having issues with AMD graphics cards & clouds.....

They seem quite friendly on there though so hopefully they'll give you some good feedback

Re: What Spec for a Flight Sim?

    Hi,
Thanks for the prompt replies, I'll have a read of the x-plane forum and determine a spec that I think may suit my needs. If its ok can I come back with the spec I believe will be suitable and gain your thoughts.

I'm thinking of purchasing the PC in components and build it over a few pay days and therefore spreading the cost. If however that the total cost of my planned build is of a certain value and it can be purchased as a complete system cheaper then I will do that instead.

    Cheers

Yep, I'm sure there will be a few people around who can comment on various things once you have a spec in mind that you think will work ok for X-plane 10.

There's also a review my build thread on Hexus which I'd try posting it into before you buy. That should get a lot more opinions from people as I imagine more people will check that forum.

You could even take advantage of the 'buy now, pay later' finance option from Scan ... This means you could have a complete rig sooner. You don't get charged any interest as long as you pay within 9 months. Very handy if you ask me (i've done it a couple of times as i can be a bit impatient ).
