3XS system bought over a year ago

    Hi,

I bought a 3XS system back in Dec 2011, it was actually delivered early Jan 2012. (for the record I have bought 4 systems over the space of 10 years with scan as well as many upgrades etc)

The problem I have is that the EVGA 570HD gfx card that came with the system has died, It is artifacting on bootup and in windows. I have tried all the usual tricks, reinstallation of the drivers in safe mode, reseating the card, but to no avail. I have confirmed that it is indeed the graphics card at fault and not another component by trying a spare 460 gfx card I had lying around (no artifacts and no problems)

My questions are these, is the computer still covered under warranty seeing thats its just gone over a year now? I cannot remember if its 1 or 2 years.. I didnt purchase the extended warranty.
Secondly, the card itself is a EVGA 570 hd with a Serial Number suffix of -B1.. this worries me because if you check the EVGA warranity information the card itself is only covered for 1 year.

I am really hoping here that you will provide me with some support in regards to replacing the card. I have never had any issues with the systems bought from yourselves, hence why I keep coming back as a repeat customer!

    Many thanks

well eu law which we are still under states 2yrs .. but under trading standards you have up to 5-6 yrs as a vid card should last that long .. but thats go's down by 15% value a yr .. but i'm sure scan will sort somthing out and if they don't then googles your best friend ..

Doesn't apply. We have an existing law that is used in place so we didn't ratify the EU one I think.

Well, either way I hope I am covered in one form or another. I have tried contacting technical support for built systems at scan this morning and it just rings and kicks in to answer phone.

That EU law only effects your rights if the fault was from time you had it. IE - You always had the fault. This is not the case and you are under the regular manufacture warranty.

yep and the fault was always there and it eventually made the unit fail .. some faults you see some you don't ..

Re: 3XS system bought over a year ago

The 3XS systems did have a 2 year warranty, I bought mine when they had a 3 year warranty, on receipt of systems it said they had a 2 year warranty, contacted sales who gave me an email confirmation they definitely have a 3 year warranty, so all in all, either way for you, should have 2 years at least. With GPU's you can get 5 or more years warranty from the manufacturer, e.g. Zotak, so in some instances even if the system suppliers give 2 or 3 years warranty on the full system, you can get an extended one from the manufacturer of some of the components, always worth looking at the components and registering them with the manufacturer too for an extended warranty if they do one.

We did fairly recently improve the warranty from 2 years to 3 years so its worrying that you were told somewhere it was still 2 years. Do you remember where you read that so I can update it? Thanks

Re: 3XS system bought over a year ago

Hi James, It was on the delivery notes that came with the PC's, which I then queried with Lee who sent me an email saying I definitely had 3 years warranty, I think he said it was because the warranty had just been changed so it wasn't on the docs sent out with the 3 systems I bought.
'It’s definitely a 3yr warranty on your systems - please treat this email as confirmation of that. Your systems were sold just before the back end was updated to reflect this but we will honour the warranty for 3yrs.'

Thanks SignLine, I'll get the delivery docs updated to show the proper warranty 3 years ASAP.
