    Plextor DVD ODD's

I do quite a lot of disk writing and testing, up to now I have always used two drives to get the best of both. But I have just about every area covered with the drives I have and have been looking into Plextor drives to cover that last few areas (TFTE/Beta and single test runs).

But when I looked last night you seem to only have pre order by the few listed.
Does that just mean that you have none in stock, or that I can order the drives I am interested in and you will get ???

What I was thinking about were the 716 and 760.

preorder means that we currently do not have any stock of the items.

However, we've heard that plextor might be pulling out of the DVD optical drive market alltogether as it's very cut throat and concentrating on attached storage instead.

    Best Regards,

I doubt Scan will be getting any more in. If you can find stock else where, then buy it while you still can.

This has reminded me to go hunting for one of their Premium writers in case my current one dies (they are one of the best you can get for audio ripping)

No, there was some sort of rumour started about Plextor leaving the retail ODD market a while back but it was nothing more than media hype. The parent company Shinanokenshi has said they are planning to down size the ODD side a small amount (to ~10% of their output) to concentrate more on the pro side, but if they are planning to be dropping the ODD side then they would have stopped their Blu Ray development plans for the new drives they are working on.

But if you (Scan) are not planning to get any more in stock its no matter as I can just get them from my media place as I normally do with my drives.

As for that link the rumors were quashed by Plextor Jp. a few days before that... around the 19th IIRC.

So where do we go for quality? All of a sudden I'm VERY glad I purchased my PX-760.

A very VERY sad situation indeed. Scan stock a lot of other DVD writers, but they're mostly "£20 Wonders", none of which are likely to meet Plextor's standards.

Plextor are not getting out of the drive biz.

LG make the best DVD writers, the 4167 and 4163 (if you can get it) are better than Plextor drives at making the disk, you just cant scan the disk after, so you need another drive to do that, its the only area where Plextor win. Some BenQ's were good at it all (which was why a lot of Plextors were just re-badged BenQ drives).

I like to do TF/TE checks on new media so I can back it if there is a problem. Lite0n's are good at this but only run an all in one test where you can do TF or TE single runs with Plextor.
