    An Idea

Right after browsing the Scan webby for days on end looking for bits and parts and stuff, i realised there could be an easier way to search your website.

And this is just an idea mind

Why not have a search engine where you could chose exactly what to look for.
Say you're after a SLI mobo with 2000mhz and 6 sata slots, you could punch that in and voila! You get a small number of mobos that you're interested in.

Like i said, just an idea because i'm bone idle and i'm having nightmares about mobos

I do like that method of browsing when buying laptops and stuff.

intel, widescreen, ram etc.. and then to be left with only the viable options is great.. might be nice to do it that way.

Or just use the advanced search option to filter out results

If you use the advanced search facility within the website areas you can generally search for terms like this.

    For example if you check the following link this shows all the fields you can search within the motherboards section for ;

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...Thumbnails=yes

Please note the fields do change depending which section you are in. You can gain access to this advanced search by clicking on the Advanced Search in the search filter that shows on the top of each section.

    Best Regards,

I'd still like to see a direct link to a proper search facility - putting more than one word in Search doesn't really work.
At least now the item's page gives its proper address, but I'd love to have the 'tree' of the page so that I know which section it's in. I find something but then don't know where it is, so can't compare similar products.

My main issue with the advanced search is that you can't select more than one term. For example you want to find all ATX & mATX motherboards that are running an an i965 chipset.

If you amend the URL then it seems to let you, for example advanced search to ATX would be:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...By=Description

but if you change this to:
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...By=Description

then it lists all ATX and uATX mobos, not ideal obviously but shows that it more a layout problem with the presented search dialogs then a problem with the actual search engine.

    Best Regards,
Thanks Lee, but because it's in the section one has to know the section first.
I've tried to find a couple of items where I didn't know the correct terms and eventually found them but then didn't know which sections they were in. This meant that I couldn't look at similar things very easily.

At some risk to my life, this system is good:
    'You're in : Home » Software » Operating Systems'
    taken from OCUK (sorry).

Also a google-type search would be handy.
