Missing 4 pin ATX power connector for PSU?

    Hi,

I have just bought a Decathlon DA650 modular PSU from Scan, to replace the 550W PSU in my HTPC, after upgrading it to a E6750, 8800GTX and Gigabyte P35C mobo (first one died within a week, and in the process of being RMA'd – but because the kid’s insisted I sort the PC before the w/e, I ordered another P34c-DS3R, which is now working great))

Now, on the website link for the PSU, it does state that there is a 4 pin ATX connector, but this is missing from the package, I have every conceivable modular lead I could ever want, except for the 4 pin, so I can't use it!

Has anyone else had on of these PSU's, and if so, should thins connector be included? (have tried to contact Silverstone, but emails keep bouncing!)

Oh yes, I have never had any bad experiences with Scan, use them a lot for both personal and business PC upgrades.

    Thank you,

    Chris

Although I do not own a Silverstone Decathlon Modular PSU, a recent review by Anandtech lists the connectors on the supply as well. So unless it's an older version stocked, it should have the standard 12 volt 4 pin connector already attached to the Power Supply. Also as you are aware the American Silverstone website states under specifications the 4 Pin as standard so hopefully Scan can send you the cables.

    Hope thats helps

If I were you I'd double check that 20 pin adaptor, looks like to me that your 4 pin connector is one of those "break off" designs

Re: Missing 4 pin ATX power connector for PSU?

Thank you for the replies, there is a 'break off' design, but the main ATX socket on the P35 mobo is a 24 pin socket, not 20, so it has to fit there, leaving me nothing for the 4 pin socket! This lead was the only one missing from the PSU, all others were plugged in when I opened the box.

I suppose you could go out and buy a 20 pin to 24 pin convertor, that way you could use the 4 pin 'break off' for the motherboard connector. I have used them. Then again if the PSU should have the said cable then fair enough, you should have it.

I can't believe any manufacturer would leave it out, indeed it is one of the requirements for the ATX spec, are you sure it isn't a break off from the 8 pin EPS12v?

Am positive, have double/triple checked every lead, it's just not there, meaning I can't use it!

Re: Missing 4 pin ATX power connector for PSU?

You should have a 20+4 pin for the main connector and you should have either a 4 or 8 pin for the other socket.

Post the link for your PSU so we can have a look at it.

Re: Missing 4 pin ATX power connector for PSU?

    1 x 24-pin motherboard connector (550mm)
    1 x 8-pin EPS12V connector (550mm)
    1 x 4-pin ATX12V connector (550mm)
    1 x 8-pin PCI-E connector (550mm)
    2 x 6-pin PCI-E connector (550mm)
    2 x triple SATA connector (500mm+250mm+250mm)
2 x triple 4-pin IDE & single floppy power connectors
    (500mm + 250mm + 250mm + 150mm)
Silverstone list the above as the cables for that PSU. No mention of breakoffs for the 8 / 4 pin.

    1 x 24-pin motherboard connector (550mm)
The 24 pin should be an unclip one so you can use it in a 20 pin motherboard.

    1 x 8-pin EPS12V connector (550mm)
    1 x 4-pin ATX12V connector (550mm)
Are the two that power the other connectors on the motherboard.

Re: Missing 4 pin ATX power connector for PSU?

I found this for that psu:

It seems despite listing the 4 and 8 pin seperately they are indeed the same cable as previously guessed.

Re: Missing 4 pin ATX power connector for PSU?

Yes that is 2x4 pin connectors which you can use as an 8 pin connector.

Some motherboards today need either a 4 or 8 pin connector.

Thanks to you (as there are no such illustrations or literature relating to the double 4 pin connecter in the box), I have now installed the new PSU in the Silverstone HTPC box, and works great!
We now have a powerful HTPC under our 50” TV, which has a E6750 (with Mars heatsink, although I think the Zalman flower coolers are better suited to this kind of case), 2 GB of (v. expensive) RAM, a BFG 8800 GTX OC, SATA DVD re-writer, Samsung 500 and 250 GB SATA hard drives, iMon display (which works great!), a X-Fi soundcard, and a decent 650W PSU to run it, and games look great!
Better still, it’s almost silent thanks to the new silent fans I installed! (The Sky+ box is noisier!)

    Thanks for your help

    Chris
